Problem solved by moving to a new server!

After reading the discussion in Modx forum:
    https://forums.modx.com/thread/80845/download-extras---an-error-occurred-while-connecting-to-the-provider?page=2
I realised maybe modx.com might have blacklisted my server too, no real evidence but everything works tip top now.

    Hope this helps.

Great to narrow it down, littleseal, but that's hardly a solution. If modx.com is blocking IP addresses, then it seems the proper solution would be to address it with someone in support. I've emailed [email protected] with my issue and will post here when they respond.

If any IP blocks occur, please email [email protected] (and include the IP address).

Just to confirm, there are no other behaviour issues with your installs, blank screens etc? We are looking into the blocked IPs.

It has been fixed for me as well. IP blocking was the cause, and it was quickly fixed by the MODX team. Thanks guys!

Hello everyone, If you're reading this thread because you couldn't get access to rest.modx.com/extras via Package Management, we have made changes to our infrastructure to avoid IP address blocking. If you are unable to connect, there are two common possibilities: a) the modx server is temporarily unavailable or b) your host/network is unable to reach it.

We are working to ensure that the extras are available to everyone all the time, however, sometimes issues arise that cause it to 502 or 503 error. We also have 24/7 monitoring and management for these servers so, if you are unable to access the server, please try accessing the server after a period of time from 30 to 60 mins.

Of course, if you do not see other reports of issues of people accessing MODX on Twitter or feel that there is an issue you need to let us know about, please email [email protected].

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but is anyone else having issues like the one here? I am having issues with these symptoms on all the MODx sites on one of my servers. In my case, sometimes the packages show up but as soon as I click on one to update or try to change the page, the site freezes and when they come back, all the package listings are not showing. The rest of the site(s) seem(s) to be working fine.

Interestingly, I moved one of the sites to another server and it works fine there and the packages manager had been working okay at one time or another on the server in question. So, I don't think it's the MODx install at all.

I need to update a bunch of sites to the latest and greatest but feel I need to update the packages first. Not sure if it is a blacklisting thing or something I need to be on the lookout with the server configuration that would affect this.

                    Thanks in advance.

MODx versions ranging between 2.2.2 to 2.2.6

I suspect that you'll need to talk to your server support about this. It may be something to do with their cURL configuration, or some other security or firewall configuration.
