Hi Everyone, this is my first post...hope its in the right place!

I’m designing a pretty basic website for a client and almost finished coding it.
My client is not very computer literate and wants a CMS to edit, delete and add new content
without a webmaster... i.e without my help.

The question is should i choose MODX and if yes, which is better for this project
      Evolution or Revolution?

I have knowledge of css, html and can work with javascript. Had exposure to PHP but would rather avoid coding with it.

The website is an ART GALLERY.
The client wants to be able to edit text and images based on an existing template.
For example add a new artist, based on existing artist pages. This sounds like it should be
very simple. This is what i would like...

The client logs in with their username and password.
Then they click on a button or option labelled "add new artist".
A form appears with fields such as "ARTIST NAME", "ARTIST TEXT", "ARTIST IMAGES".
client enters the relevant text and uploads an image. Finally they click publish
to upload the new artist to the website.

      That question again...

Should i choose MODX and if yes, which is better for this project
      Evolution or Revolution?

thanks in advance for any responses

        Hi Mackenzy,

        Welcome!

MODx would be a great solution here. You can use either Evo or Revo. There are a few more image gallery snippet options for Evo, but Revo has he benefit of being the new kid on the block. You might want to explore both.

You might want to read this thread that started a day or two ago as it covers the same question: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,61468.msg349259.html#msg349259

Like most things in MODx, there are a number of different ways to do this.

The MODx Revolution version of NewsPublisher might serve if there are not too many artists. The Artist name could go in a Template Variable (TV) and the Text could go in a rich text TV. The images could be uploaded and placed directly into the content field (also rich text). This would all take place in the front-end.

You wouldn’t have any thumbnail or slideshow/gallery options but you could have create a kind of gallery of all artists using the getResources snippet or a menu of links to artist’s pages with Wayfinder.

Bear in mind that NewsPublisher is a beta version.

You could also use one of the gallery snippets, which would allow you use one of the gallery presentation add-ons like slimbox, etc. For that, you would probably want to use Evolution and MaxiGallery or Easy2Gallery since they are more mature and easier to configure than anything available yet for Revolution.

            thanks for your answers.

OK I’m leaning more towards Evo since there’s probably more examples and solutions.
I’m gonna read up on this...

I would definitely advise using Evo with one of the Gallery Add-ons in this specific case as you can use Manager Manager and custom welcome pages to have a completely custom site that should perform well even on a very modest shared server.

                Greetings

I am looking at migrating a clients website from joomla to modx, but need to know if this is possable first...

they are a tour operator so i would need to make a custom search engine that will serch for multiple criteria for example:

                Search by
                Price
                Destination
                Availability
                Duration etc.

basically a multi field search form similar to those used by real estate websites

how hard would this be to implement in modx

Also they import .xml feeds into pages from a external site that populates with available tours from said site

thank you in advance for the answers smiley

Hey I’m a complete newbee to modx - It looks amazing to me as a very strict clean web coder! This is a pretty basic issue: How do I upload more than one file in the files tab in my Manager. When I click add files it only lets me select one at a time huh

                  Revo MODx Revolution 2.0.8-pl (traditional)

You can use the FileUpload snippet to create an upload screen with as many file input lines as you like. You can also use FTP if there are a lot of files to move.

I’m not exactly understanding what you mean about a file upload snippet. Let me try to rephrase my question, although it’s probably just my limited understanding smiley

I have modx revo running on a local LAMP server. I’m trying to take and existing site and convert it over to modx. I’m in the Manager and I click on the "Files" tab. I click on the "Upload files" button and it takes me to a dialog box. I clicked the "+ Add" button and tried to upload files. Now, here’s the problem: it only lets me select one file at a time to upload. Is that the normal way to upload files - individually?

                      Thanks for helping me!
