Ok I installed it, and after some tinkering it seems to work fine.

Question is, ive now got [!WebLoginPE? &type=`users`!] in the request account page.

    User signs up = ok

Problem is the user is not auto synced to the SMF forum.

Any idea on how to get this done?

Does this most recent update combined address the problem of not being able to logout of the forum on PC or Mac at all?

      See http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,6676.msg94560.html#msg94560

If not, has anyone discovered a solution to this yet? Seems fairly critical to me.

        Mostly harmless.

        Hello,

I’m pretty new to ModX too, but I really like what I see already.

So I have installed this plugin, but there is no clear info on what to enter in the path fields. I’ve read all of the posts on this subject, but still cannot find any.
Maybe you need better documentation on this one. I’m on apache/mySQL server so I have tried something that someone suggested:

        CMS base url: /
        Forum base path: /home/accountname/public_html/sitename.com/forums/

But the problem I’m having with this is that whenever I click register or login it takes me to a strange page like:

        forums.sitename.com/home/accountname/public_html/sitename.com/forums/index.php?id=5 ...

Could this something because I have my SMF installed at subdomain? And if I have it like this:

        SMF: forums.sitename.com
        MODx: www.sitename.com

what should I enter in the Forum base path in the module configuration to work?

Once you’ve entered the correct admin login information for your SMF admin account, you should be able to run the module and try to Synchronize users. This step will also redirect login/logout/register requests from SMF if I’m not mistaken. Have you tried this step yet?

yes, I did that pixelchutes, my users are synchronized.

I entered these values in the path fields and it worked great:

            CMS base url: http://www.sitename.com/
            Forum base path: http://forums.sitename.com/

But another problem appeared after that. When a user tries to sign up through the site, this message pops up: "Missing user name. Please insert a user name" .
I found this to be bug #884 and I so I fixed this according to this post.

Now users can sign up, but the next problem is that they cannot login sad

When a user tries to login, it gets him to a blank page. I tried to change the same values as in the fix for bug #884 but what happens now is that when a user tries to login it always says username incorrect.

Any clues how can I fix this?

EDIT: Actually the thing with the paths didn’t work like that. Can you guys please advise me how should I set the paths for this module?? The only way it works is like this:

            CMS base url: /home/user/public_html/sitename.com/
            Forum base path: /home/user/public_html/sitename.com/forums/

But the problem is that I cannot use the register and login buttons through the forum, it doesn’t get me to the page which contains the register and login form.
My SMF forum is installed in forum.sitename.com could this be the problem??

this problem is documented elsewhere in this thread. Haven’t installed this module for a while but, from memory, I think the solution is to make sure the SMF DB and the Modx DB have different username/passwords

Here’s what I am using for my base paths configuration, all with no problems:

                CMS base url: /
                Forum Base Path: /home/username/public_html/forum

The problem is you are entering an absolute directory Path for a CMS base url. Try entering "/" if your MODx site is installed at your www root and you should be set!

I have different DB username/password for SMF and MODx, I don’t think it has anything to do with that. The username is different, and I’ve just changed the password to make sure, and it is not that.

pixelchutes, the first combination I tried was the one you are suggesting, but with the same result. The problem is that, when I click register or login on the forum, it takes me to:

                  forums.sitename.com/index.php?id=5

                  instead of

                  www.sitename.com/index.php?id=5

I have my forum installed in a subdomain, and not in a subfolder, that is the problem I think. So is there any way I connect my forum with my modx and have it stay that way?

EDIT: I solved the mysterious puzzle laugh

I have it set up like this:

                  CMS base url: http://www.sitename.com/
Forum Base Path: /home/username/public_html/sitename.com/forums (since I have it installed in a addon domain, not in the root)

And it works good so far, I have managed to sign up, log in successfully through the forum and site. I guess all of my problems with the user management problems came from that one.

Will report if anything goes wrong smiley

                  Thanks for helping out guys!

Man I can’t handle this anymore, I give up.

When I click register or login on the forum, it takes me to the MODx login/signup page, and I successfully login/sign up, but when I get back to the forum I’m still not logged in there.

Also if I try to open the administration panel through the MODx manager, it does not log me into the admin panel of SMF.

I don’t know what this is, but I lost enough hair with this, I think its better to leave my users sign up through different accounts than go through all this.

Agreed! Lost hair (and money) myself synchronising SMF and Modx. I did get it all working in the end but it still feels a bit patchy. Worse thing is there’s a problem with cookies so once you’ve logged into SMF from a Modx page, you can’t log out until the cookies expire!
