If you go to your site configuration "Tools > Configuration", under "Interface & Features" you can change the Editor to use: value to None, and this will force EditArea to load automatically each time. Then, if you still wish to use TinyMCE, you can just toggle it from the select menu when editing documents.[/b]
I have just installed EditArea for use with MODx but cannot get it to show as the editor. I followed all the steps outlined in the install (using v0.3.3) and doing what you suggested above. Does this work with FF3?

    Just to clarify:
Downloaded the source files and uploaded to ../modx/assets/plugins/edit_area. This then gives a structure of:
    ../modx/assets/plugins/edit_area/assets/plugins/edit_area/core.

The file editarea.plugin.php therefore sits in ../modx/assets/plugins/edit_area/

    and the files plugin_history.txt, plugin_bugs.txt, plugin_todo.txt and README.txt sit in ../modx/assets/plugins/edit_area/assets/plugins/edit_area.

I have created a new plugin for this and copied the relevant content from the web page to the "Plugin configuration" box on the Configuration tab.

Selected the recommended System Events and that should be it. Permissions on the folders seem fine.

The one part I didn’t really follow was this:

    "EditArea Plugin Code:
Open "editarea.plugin.php" from the download (don’t forget the README!)"

    Cheers

      @eagleeye,

This is a simple fix...the .zip file is meant to be extracted into the base modx directory (normally /, in your case it looks like /modx )

According to your post, you have duplicated the base /assets/plugins structure...

      Change the following from:
      ../modx/assets/plugins/edit_area/assets/plugins/edit_area/core
      to:
      ../modx/assets/plugins/edit_area/core

I would simply delete ../modx/assets/plugins/edit_area/assets directory (and everything in it) and then re-extract the .zip file in your modx base to get your paths corrected!

      As for:
The one part I didn’t really follow was this:

      "EditArea Plugin Code:
Open "editarea.plugin.php" from the download (don’t forget the README!)"

The editarea.plugin.php file is located in the root of the .zip file. Copy the contents of "editarea.plugin.php" into the textarea of your "EditArea" plugin. This is needed for loading the necessary EditArea files, etc

      Cheers! cool

All working now - many thanks. I thought the duplication in the path wasn’t correct but by then I was a bit punch drunk with trying to get others things to work and wasn’t thinking clearly huh

The plugin is excellent, exactly what I needed.

But recently I decided to get rid of TinyMCE and use Textile formatting. Thing is, EditArea doesn’t break the lines and this is necessary for writing text. Also, it tries to highlight my text.

Is it possible to disables those features for the pages where I set "rich text" flag? Thanks in advance.

              I realy like this plugin,

Could the selected text color be changed? On my imac the selected color(D8EBFA) is almost the same as the line selected color(E1F2F9)
its almost not indistinguishable from each other.

              I use ff3.x on osx(mac)

                Dimmy,

I’ve noticed this same issue on Mac Safari/FireFox... I’ve even relayed this concern to the author with no response sad ...as soon as I can dive in and find out how to customize them, I’ll flip it into a feature of 0.4.1 smiley

(Do you know where these colors get defined?)

You can edit it in edit_area.css .. look for #selection_field and just change it’s background-color.

I just got EditArea working in Chrome by downloading 0_7_2_3 of the component itself from sourceforce
                      http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=164008

Assuming you have the most recent version of the modx plugin installed, copy the contents of the above package’s edit_area folder into assets/plugins/edit_area/core/edit_area/

So far so good - as with anything involving lots of javascript processing, this is performing really nicely in Chrome.
