What happens if you use an older version, e.g. 0.3.1?

I just tried setting the latest version up on the latest modx release 9.6.1

After setting everything up and uploading files and folders, I do not get the editor option neither for the general configuration (where I select the editor to use) nor for a specific user. I only see TinyMCE or None.

        Any ideas ?

        Jose

Try changing it to None. That should allow the EditArea plugin to initialize

                Jose,

If you go to your site configuration "Tools > Configuration", under "Interface & Features" you can change the Editor to use: value to None, and this will force EditArea to load automatically each time. Then, if you still wish to use TinyMCE, you can just toggle it from the select menu when editing documents.

If you don’t want to make this a site-wide change, you can always edit your Manager user settings and handle on a per-user basis.

Best of luck! Also, I recommend you grab the newest EditArea v0.3.3 (released today!)

For anyone who wants an unofficial upgrade to this...
I went to the EditArea site http://www.cdolivet.net/editarea/
... and grabbed 0.7.1.2, replaced the files in the 0.3.3 version of the MODx plugin, and it pretty much works without any changes.
The only thing I could not get working was the compression, so you’ll need to turn that off.
0.7.1.2 is supposed to work in Firefox 3 and Safari 3.1 (I haven’t tested extensively in a lot of browsers myself.)

If you like EditArea functionalities, and if you use Firefox
try the add-on "It’s all text"... amazing little piece of software,
