With a standard account you get 50 MySQL databases, unlimited domains (!). A good friend said they now will do an auto-install of MODx, the way a lot of hosts do for WordPress, but I haven’t been able to verify this... perhaps because my bluehost account is older than his. But that aside, I’ve used bluehost for a number of MODx sites and I’ve never had a problem with the host... the PHP modules were all there, permissions were always good. Thumbs up!

See if you can see the SimpleScripts link in cPanel. I’m not sure what version of MODx it installs.

Simplescripts was 0.9.6.3 within hours of its release.

I do all my MODx hosting (as well as a number of other open source and paid open source PHP/MySQL applications, like Open Goo) at MediaLayer. Very quick server and great support, including InnoDB for MySQL. Love the control panel as well.

Hmmm, I want to switch. The manager is very slow with this host.

I’ve had good luck with Site5 over the past 2 years (well still a month away) and lately the system have been getting even better. The new boxes are 8 core with 8 gb of ram. The default php.ini is 32mb, but you can change that if you want.

Looks like I’ll be switching to Bluehost after the summer. I’ve been having fun playing with my Solaris virtual private server, but their mail is funky and dealing with the server administration is getting to be a bit tiresome. As long as Bluehost doesn’t overload their servers (I’ve got one freebie non-profit client who gripes and complains more than anybody else I’ve ever dealt with; I’d dump him but he’s a friend of a friend...you know how that goes!) it looks good.
