Hosting Reccomendations

I’ve had developed about 10 sites on bluehost Lamphost in the last few months. They’ve got some weird FTP issues. It takes a few seconds to connect on each upload. It makes online tweaks a real pain. just a heads up

Correction. I was tired and thought Susan’d said LampHost. Ive never used bluehost

Chuck - please let me know a bit more about the FTP issues you are asking about. We have not had any complaints about this type of connection issue and want to see if it is something that we can recreate on our side. Please send me the FTP client you are using etc. and we would be happy to take a look.

You HAVE had complaints about this... *I’VE* complained about that specifically. I noticed it occurred primarily when using Transmit and not so much with Cyberduck. Whatever the cause, the issue was limited to Bluehost. Even though that is frustrating, I still think Bluehost is a great service.

I’ve noticed the same thing with WS_FTP at Bluehost, though it’s been a while since I used FTP there.

Yeah... I haven’t encountered the problem for a while since I got SSH access to my accounts...

I updated my thread. I was thinking lamphost- ive never been on bluehost =/

I’ll make one other comment: we also have a dedicated server hosted with Speakeasy. The hardware seems fine... but their support is decidedly hands off any time we’ve asked a specific question about optimization, permissions, etc... I for one am really frustrated by this. It seems like there’s some disconnect between what their sales teams promises and what their tech team is set up to deliver.

Other than that miscommunication, the service itself seems pretty good: decent graphs on traffic, very little (no?) downtime, and a staff very knowledgeable re hardware requirements.

Has anyone used maiahost.com? They offer to pre-install MODx and to troubleshoot MODx issues. They’re dirt cheap for shared hosting ($3.95/month) although some of the reviews (at least the ones that appear to be posted by non-employees) are negative.

I have a VPS with Host Color - http://www.hostcolor.com/vps for about 9 months and I shall say that the service is excellent and the uptime was 100% up to this point.

When i signed up for "VPS Power" virtual private server I got the VPS with their proprietary control panel, but although it was good, it was still not as mature as cPanel or Plesk. So I asked them to provide cPanel license and reinstalled the VPS. SInce them I don’t have any issues and it is hard to say anything negative. The advantages of Host Color is that they offer VPS in 2 locations - one in U.S. and another in Europe. So you can migrate anytime you want.

The migration is quite easy, because they use Virtuozzo Power Panel. I asked them can I get migrated from one location to another and they explained that the infrastructure manager of Parallels they use allows them easy to transfer clients’ VPS. I’m sure that the other guys who use Parallels can do this as well. It is fantastic option. Isn’t it?

Any way my rank for Host Color VPS Hosting services is 9.5 from 10. The only thing that the shall improve is the account set-up time. It tooks them up to 4 hours to set up the VPS. However it worth the time to wait!

Base on my experience as VPS customer of Host Color I recommend their virtual private servers!
