I have used both hostgator and bluehost. While Bluehost has superior customer service, I don’t like their hosting as you get throttled when you start using a lot of resources. Hostgator does not throttle you. I don’t think they have bad customer service. Just not as friendly as Bluehost.

Pricing is about equal.

I have not used Dreamhost. However, I have heard them described as "Nightmare Host:.

In my experience, Hostgator is a good company, both for the resources they give you in the hosting plans, and for the customers services.
Some years ago, I chose Hostgator instead of Bluehost or Dreamhost, because HG has less bad reviews.. and today I can say that was a good choice !

#2 is site5 with 809 red flags.
#3 is webhostingpad with 469 red flags.

Just out of curiosity, why do you use MODx if you are so dissatisfied with it?

I can’t say I’ve experienced any of those ’issues’ you described. People on these forums are overwhelmingly helpful, especially the core developers who put a huge amount of their spare time into MODx. Just persevere a little and I’m sure your problems can be sorted out...

Feel free to delete this post if it is spammy in any way, but I’m renting out space on my own servers at competitive if anyone needs a bit more TLC or features/bandwidth/backups than you can get with an off-the shelf solution. I’m kinda pumped because I got some truck-nuts on Apache and NGINX so page requests are resolving super-fast, and I’m tuning MySQL to optimize for MODx sites. Private message me if you need a bit more horsepower in your hosting package and don’t have the time/patience/know-how to do all the crazy sysadmin stuff that usually accompanies it.
