What happens if you turn Friendly URLs off altogether (also renaming all .htaccess files back to ht.access)

I've just tried that. Renamed back to ht.access and commented out the friendly url. Removed the html file i just put in. Get 500 error again.

To be honest, at this point I would do a fresh installation of the same version and see if that works. If it does, then I'd see about updating it with the old site. I would use Vapor.

I can install MODX on the clients server using MOJO through cPanel. If I do that, can I just update the database with mine and then upload the extra files?

OK. I installed a fresh instance of modx on the server. I was able to access the manager.

After I dropped the tables from the database (that came with the new install) and imported my existing database I can no longer access the manager. I got a blank screen.

I tried removing all the files from the cache directory and now get the 500 error again.

                    OK.

I've been working from these instructions https://modxcloud.com/userguide/how-tos/import-sites-with-vapor.html and have done the following:

                    - Installed the Vapor package onto existing site in testing domain.
                    - Ran the vapor package script and can see the zip file on the server
                    - Created MODx Cloud account and imported the zip vapor file into my 'vault'

The instruction don't make it too on what I need to do now to get the snapshot I have just taken into my new site on the proper domain.

                    Any help appreciated.

You don't need the MODX Cloud. Vapor works on all sites. Take the zip file and put it in your site's core/packages folder and install it from the Package Manager like any other local package. It will log you out, just go ahead and log out and then log back in again.
