If the Report link doesn't work, how about removing it (or better, making it work)? It seems I've been wasting my time trying to report a number of streaming spam posts over the past couple of weeks. Another black mark against Discuss.

          kp52,

There are bugs in the current version of Discuss, however it's not all bad. It's most likely our current implementation and the lack of available resources to make changes to the MODX Forums. The report button worked and then it stopped but we stopped development of the original Discuss and focused on Discuss 2. Part of the reason we're still on the original Discuss is that we've never been able to successfully upgrade to D2 due to the massive size of the tables of posts + users that are over 50K in number. MODX.com is a very large complex set of integrated functionality and applications we are working on decoupling and streamlining, however, users and Extras is getting priority treatment.

I'll see about reviewing the report functionality and see if it can't be revived or altered to ensure it functions to notify people of Spam.

Are you running some js spam protection already? I'm not talking about captchas, but something running in the background (hidden fields, salted and hashed timstamps, etc). After a few iterations this is working now quite well for me.

Most smap bots scripts I have seen so far don't adapt to this kind of protection. Even semi-autonomous attacks don't adapt to polymorphous forms as it is mostly not attractive to waste your time on a target that fights back. In the end spammers want to have the most bang for their bucks.

Send me a pm, if you want to walk that road.

              Regards,

pepebe, we're not currently running any JS spam protection. What I am seeing is the registrations are most likely by humans. The behavior is not looking like it's bot driven. I could be wrong and am open to looking at adding a new layer to the registration form.
