If mail() finally works, then there must be something wrong with your eForm call or with the templates/chunks you’re using.

Personally, I never use &to=`[(email_sender)]` if I want the mails going to the address I’ve conifigured in modx, because without the &to parameter, it defaults to this address anyway.

In your case, make sure the address in modx is the same address of that mailbox you created now on that server. If it’s not identical, you can hard code the address into your eForm call: &to=`[email protected]`

If that doesn’t work, please show us the chunks for ContactForm and ContactFormReport you’re using, instead of the snippet itself (assuming you did not tinker with the eForm snippet)

the email matches that of the box i’ve setup, so where should i take out the &to=`[(email_sender)]` part so that it will default and still work? do i just completely remove that?

No, &to=`[(email_sender)]` should work fine according to others in this thread (I’ve never used it myself), and you can leave it where it is. It is just my personal preference not to have it in the eForm call when I use the default address, as it’s one item less to be concerned about then. Sorry for confusing you about that.

Can you post your chunks for the form itself now (ContactForm) and for the report (ContactFormReport)?

ok i finally managed to set up a proper mail box with the host, as the forwarding still wouldn’t work with that testmail script. so i’ve set the real mailbox to forward instead and now the test mail script works!! woohoo, which is great news. although the contact form still doesn’t seem to work... but at least we know that ()mail works

If all you want is a simple contact form, you might want to try SPForm. It’s still in the testing phase but I’ve been using it on several sites with no trouble (and I’m anxious to having it tested by others). The configuration and install is pretty easy, the instructions are very specific, and it does the verification of the fields by default. There are no templates or parameters to worry about and it can be more spamproof than eForm.

Just download the .zip file at the end of this message:
              http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,19357.msg120370.html#msg120370

OTOH, if you want to have custom fields, uploads, or use your form to interface with the MODx DB, then you should continue to work on getting eForm to function for you.

                Like I said here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,18978.msg121005.html#msg121005
its a typo, remove underscore and everything will be fine...

oh my goodness, that underscore introduced again, and I was overlooking it!

But isn’t a typo like that exactly the point that speaks for simply not useing the whole &to=`...` parameter when someone wants to send to the default address? To specify &to=`[(emailsender)]` has absolutely no function, it can only be a source of a possible malfunction.
