How much would it cost for a high skilled coder to implement elFinder, kcfinder, etc inside modx evo and revo ? Why not hire a coder ? A high skilled php and javascript coder could do this in a day. So what are we talking about ?
    100, 200, 300 dollar ?
If we open up a donation channel and if 300 modx'ers donate 1 dollar then we can get this behind of us once and for all.

Sounds very tempting. Could this be an extra or would it be a core thing? If second, the MODX guys have to nod first.

        Actualy that's a great idea.
Hope Jay and Ryan are following this.
Set up a small crowdfunding module for developing modules. Maybe connect it to a proper feature request module(like http://requests.foxycart.com)
I'd pay €100 to get the resource browser fixed.

Implementing this is one aspect. What about bug fixing and support after the initial dev work has been paid for?

And I believe it will prove to be a bit more complicated than appears at first glance. We have ACLs. We have contexts. We have media sources. The controller will have to be written to take all of this into consideration and initiate the actual browser app with all the proper configuration. I do not think that it could be done in a day. It will take someone intimately familiar with all of these MODx functions (and undoubtedly more that I have not yet learned about), as well as the Javascript application in question.

We are talking php/js/css/etc. which is all non-proprietary software. So the flowchart, sourcecode and breakpoints are delivered with the addon/extra. This can be maintained by a lesser skilled coder. Outsourcing a software job is very old and quite common these days, but maybe not for a forum ? Well then, why not ask the modx team to let them hire a coder that could do the job under their supervision. The modx team could tell us how much it would cost and let us donate the money. Everyone who donated gets a copy of the addon/extra.
This is also an idea to expand business for the modx team. [ed. note: sitecms last edited this post 13 years, 8 months ago.]

Find somebody I feel is competent to do such a thing reliably, and I'll donate towards it.

honestly - I think it needs to be in the core, otherwise I will be afraid to update every time.

I see the Media Manager as an integral part of the MODX, thus making this a core implementation and by that a chief-of-staff-decision. But I would participate in a donation, because the current MM situation is a little awkward. Customers just don't like it (stretched thumbnails, cut and thus unreadable filenames, not memorizing last path, no resize/crop).

While the existing file browser is actually built-in to the Manager and would probably be very difficult to replace in the Files tab, I don't see why a plugin like that for Rich Text editors could not be used for TVs and RTEs, which is what clients mostly use it for. In fact, I seem to recall mention from somebody that did implement a different resource browser in TinyMCE or CKEdit.
