Yes, by control panel I do mean your host's control panel. MODX doesn't have a control panel :~}

You can stick with php5.2.1, just make sure your php.ini is set properly for MODX (use the doc link I sent earlier).

Went to MODx requirement links.

So... seems like I should be OK as is since at least I think the server is running 5.2.17 and the site seems to be functioning OK at the moment.

Check the php.ini anyway. I've never encountered a php.ini that has everything configured according to the requirements.

cURL is often off, as are zlib, magic_quotes, and register_globals (on actually for these two) in 5.2 and 5.3 std php.ini files.

I found the php.ini file, downloaded it and opened in text wrangler. All greek to me. Only matching item is "register_globals = off"

This is of course way over my head.

Use the find (ctrl+F) function and just search for the keywords to find the settings.

Or you can just look through it manually. If you've got syntax highlighting in your text editor it should be fairly easy to distinguish between commented settings and working settings.

Most, if not all of them will be in the file, but may be commented out. Uncomment and set any that need to be set.

It's a long file, but the find function makes it a lot easier to check than just scrolling through.

Anything you don't find that needs to be set, get yourself onto google for the proper string to use and just paste it in. Although everything really should be there, if it's the correct php.ini for your version that is... (can't rely on the host for that, unfortunately). Again, google is your friend, read up a bit about php.ini files.

The php.ini file I found really doesn't contain very much code at all. I'll keep looking. Maybe I found the wrong one.

More likely is you have the right one (meaning, it's in the correct spot), but it's lacking.

I have just installed MODX Revolution 2.2.6-pl (traditional)and after logging in, I get only text menus.. (see attached image.)

I have tried to follow the above instructions,
login to phpMyAdmin > browse table 'modx_system_settings'

and there is no fields named compress_css nor compress_js.

Can not set them to 9 if they do not exist.. see 2nd attached image. I have deleted the /core/cashe/ folder, it is now empty.

Any thoughts?

erm . . . You do know that there's more than one page to the system_settings table, right? You need to use the > button to see the other pages.
