Revolution 2.2.6 Manager Pages Blank after New Install

    To be honest I haven't done anything with the php.ini
    It appears as though my host it running php 5.3. However, I don't fully understand their interface. PHP 5.2 is checked by when I look at the overview page, but a message on the page says that the server is running php 5.3 by default. Maybe php 5.2 is checked, assuming that I am wanting to downgrade, since there is then a "continue" button at the bottom of the screen.

    I will need to call support and confirm.

    Have you made sure your php.ini is configured according to the installation documentation requirements? What version of php are you using?

      compress_css and compress_js work fine in most hosting environments, and not in others.

      I haven't seen exactly a FTP manager in a control panel yet, for FTP I use an external program (Notepad++ is free, and very decent) and deleting the core/cache from there takes a long while. Control panel file manager is much faster.

      Additionally, if your FTP manager is actually a ftp manager... extracting files in ftp as opposed to a control panel file manager or extraction script from the control panel more often than not results in corrupted or missed files which can cause the issue you're seeing.

      Who is your host, and can you locate a "file manager" in your control panel or is there only a FTP manager available? Can you locate an unpacking/extraction script (should be separate from the file/ftp manager)

        I deleted all of the folders and contents in core/cache.

        Logged into my manager for the site, and voila! I have the resource tree on the left. All is looking more like it should.

        You are a lifesaver and I can't thank you enough!

          But.... what about that compress_css, compress_js thing.

          Do I turn those back to "1", or just leave them at "0"?

            by FTP manager, I mean the one that is available in the goDaddy control panel.

            I have had bad luck using either dreamweaver or Fetch when attempting to upload and install MODx in the past. The result is a ton of permissions issues. I could be wrong, but my thinking is that when in the past I've downloaded the MODx app and unzipped it on my Mac, my own computer puts permissions on the various folders, which then get carried to the web server when I upload them.

            In this scenario, I did no unzip the MODx app on my desktop, but rather used the goDaddy ftp file manager to upload the zip and then used the goDaddy "UnArchive".

            The result was by far the smoothest install of MODx I have ever had—except for this current issue—which has been successfully resolved with your assistance. Thank You!

              Look at the requirements for installation, you'll want to make sure your php.ini (may only be configurable through your host, look for php config script in the control panel) is set for these requirements.

              Some hosts will say you're running a php version by default, yet when you look at the configuration it's clearly a different version. create a blank file and name it php.info, place it in the root of your site. Then open it in a browser. Your actual configuration will show. (in MODX manager, use the "reports"-> "site info" menu options, then click the view link at the top to get the same info)

                GoDaddy servers are not known to be 100% MODX friendly, but it's mostly solved by configuration effort as far as I know.

                You'll want to keep the compress_css and compress_js off on this server.

                The way you extracted the file this time is correct. Do that or similar from no on, for all servers you use.

                  Use MODx Manager > Reports > Site Info > PHP info View and the result says: PHP 5.2.17

                    Yep, so it ain't 5.3 is it? Stupid hosts...

                    You'll have to set and configure php 5.3 in the control panel yourself. They lie like dead dogs!

                    (oh, and check it occasionally. I've recently had "a ghost" downgrade 5.4 to 5.2 TWICE at one server but the host claims "wasn't me" like my kids do. I know I upgraded it manually, twice!)
