It doesn't clean up after itself very well when trying to remove things. Especially Articles! Trying to remove that can definitely trash your site. As well as not removing files and elements, or not removing elements but removing files thus breaking the element, there are some system settings that don't get updated, so an experimental site that installs/removes stuff a lot just to see what it does will have those settings get bigger and bigger with stuff that doesn't exist any more.
I couldn´t agree more. I like to have a test area/context on my site, so I can experiment and test things before pushing it to clients. That´s extremely important to me.
I am not at the Sottwell-level yet, so I am wondering, is it normal that:
- the database won´t be cleaned up and contain leftovers from uninstalled packages. Once I got into the database I found leftovers everywhere ?
- the manager won´t be cleaned, and leaves chunks, tv´s, snippets and templates ?
Also, it took me forever to remove the packages, because some Add-ons I have been upgrading since their first revo releases, and thats a lot of versions to remove one by one. Keeping all previous packages seems bit too much and will take up space.
I am getting closer. The front end is working, except for the Gallery module. Backend I now get the famous:
Unexpected token <:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Which means a lot 500 server errors. My directories got file permission 755, but some of the files also ended up with 755.
I thought running Setup would fix that, but no.
"Bob Ray writes in his book: If your host is using suPHP or suExec, you may need to set the permissions to 644 and the directory permissions to 755"
So that might be the case. I have tried to CHMOD the directories inside the Manager to 755 but that still leaves the files as 755.
Could that be a feature to add in the future, the correct CHMOD of both files and directories inside the manager ?
Now I am trying to do this via FTP, looking for an easy way out.
Kindly
Daniel
