    Just did a clean install of Modx Revo 2.2.5-pl in a sub directory on the server and it gave the same errors a described in this post.

    Now i am testing older versions:

    Modx 2.1.5-pl works fine - no errors !!

    I will try the latest 2.2.6-pl and then go back from 2.2.5-pl to 2.2.4-pl etc, to find where the breaking point is on this server.

    Hopefully I wont have to downgrade my clients

      How can your host prevent you from connecting via ssh from any client, or from the command line? And if they have ssh access I would find it very odd if sftp doesn't also work; I believe it's part of the ssh service. Cyberduck and FileZilla do sftp, as does phpStorm.

      ssh username@domain (or ssh domain -l username)
      <password>
      find /var/www/html/*/ -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
      find /var/www/html/* -type f -name '*' -exec chmod 644 {} \;
