MODX having a hard time on Rackspace Cloud Sites

Not to get into a rant on Rackspace Cloud sites... but I remember when they (Mosso) were brought into the Rackspace fold proper I knew it was the beginning of the end. Ever since(2010?) it's been a slow decline.

At this point I use the service for managing current customer's DNS and email... since I have an early account I get free 1GB email accounts for everyone.. that alone is worth the $100/m

MODX Cloud runs nginx (vs Apache which uses .htaccess) and you are able to create rewrites via the local nginx config.

What I've found is if you setup nginx right at the system level you have to do very little tuning on a per-site basis that I used to do via htaccess

Our biggest issue with moving off Cloud Sites is handling accounts with E-mail service. We've been leaving these RSCS active and only pointing MX there but $100/mo is alot to pay for extra email hosting. Looks like Rackspace will be losing all their MODX business.

I'm sure we'll eventually transition off.... but let's say at an hourly rate of $100/hr ... can you transition everyone off in 12 hours? ... Nope, not even close... or pay $100/m and not think about it and work on more important things... that's where I'm at.... they got me by the family jewels, but I'll slowly migrate as it makes sense.... or we get an unpaid intern who has a passion for migrating websites.

My understanding is that it is still an issue with Rackspace's specific implementation of how they mount disks using NFS and its lack of native file locking. (Or something close to that.) I do not think there is no workaround at this time.

Thanks Ryan... I remember that there were some updates made in a previous version of 2.2.7 but didn't know where it ended up. Rackspace always answers is the same way - that they are working as hard as they can for a fix.

This could be part of the problem of running Revo on Rackspace, or Rackspace might have one or more additional problems, as Ryan suggests. Don't know, thought I would bring it up for discussion. One thing for sure, the Web hosting market is swinging from conventional shared machines to cloud-based. MODX must be made to work satisfactorily with the cloud guys, else that trend will be no friend.
