    I think it’s best indeed... This thread looks like a detective story packed with a lot of chapters wink

      I could install MODx on dotcompal’s server grin laugh

      All I have done was to add following code to to the top of /install/index.php and after installation to /manager/include/config.inc.php:
      @ ini_set ('session.save_path', '/full/path/to/session/folder');

      (this folder is outside DocumentRoot and needs to be writeable)

      When installing, I realized the session variable that will check if sessions work is generated on the first page of the installer:
      http://domain.com/install/index.php when the URL variable "?s=set" is not passed. So, if you fail the first test, make some changes and hit "retry" the test will always fail. You need to restart the whole installer.

          Hey Guys!

          I am sorry to bother you with this old problem again.
          I tried to install a ModX version 0.9.5 on a apache, php 4.4 server. and keep getting this error.
          "Checking if sessions are properly configured: Failed!"
          I have no access to php.ini, so i added the fowing line(i tried different paths all 777):

          session_save_path(’var/www/s7u85/files/session/’);

          just before this line

          session_start();

          I also tried to put in:

          @ ini_set (’session.save_path’, ’var/www/s7u85/files/session/’);

          I changed it in these files(in these files i found session_start(); ):

          install/index.php
          install/instprocessor.php
          assets/modules/docmanager/includes/process.inc.php

          this i how my phpinfo looks like:

          Session Support enabled
          Registered save handlers files user

          Directive Local Value Master Value
          session.auto_start Off Off

          session.use_trans_sid Off Off

          i am having no cookieblocker or similar and browsing with firefox 2.
          has anyone a idea?

          cheers, G

          Okay i found it! after spending 5hours solving the problem, i realized today, ’ / ’ was missing in the path.
          in the end it worked fine with this line:

          session_save_path(’/var/www/s7u85/files/session/’);

          in these files

          install/index.php
          assets/modules/docmanager/includes/process.inc.php
