Everything appears proper in this configuration. This is the only suspect setting I can see...
session.save_path /var/php_sessions /var/php_sessions
Is this path writable by PHP? If running phpSuExec/FastCGI, it will have to be writable by your account. If not, you’re going to have to modify the /manager/includes/config.inc.php file so that you can call session_save_path(’/path/writable/by/php’); just before session_start in the startCMSSession() function.
But the fact that the URL is changing has me confused. As if the sessions are accepting input, but not getting loaded on each request. You might also check the value of your variables_order in the phpinfo under PHP Core section. Make sure it includes an S.
Hello,
I am trying to install ModX. This the 2nd time I am using ModX. Previous installtion was smooth I successfully installed ModX without any problems.
In the present website which is hosted woth powweb i am getting the following error :
" Checking if sessions are properly configured: Failed! "
I searched this forum and found out the same kind of error for some other members, I followed those but cant resolve this issue.
It will be greatly appreciated if anyone help me install ModX for me? or help me to solve this issue?
thanks and regards

I don’t know this host (please post details about your configuration, a phpinfo() page would be nice), would that be a cheap / free hosting service ?
A lot of those have old or limitations-bundled servers... something like
suPHP or/and Apache
suExec
Your problem reminds me of a problem some french users had with a free host. You might need to create a /sessions/ folder at the root (but you’d have to check this with your host).
Note : Please use explicit title for your posts like "Problem with sessions configuration upon install" rather than "Urgent Help Please" which are not helpful. You’re lucky I read your message, usually I don’t when I can’t understand what it’s about when reading the title

Yeti34, can you please confirm whether you resolved this issue?
But it is a cheap host ($7.77pcm).
Possible solutions from previous times this has come up:
1) If you have ZoneAlarm firewall cookie and ad blocking feature on your client computer (or similar), disable for the duration of install.
2) If there is no session.save_path defined and/or the value for use_trans_sid is set to 1 (true) in your configuration, make the change suggested by OpenGeek at
http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,2658.msg23321.html#msg23321 which will set the save path.
3) Your host is shit, get a new one.
Hello greg,
1) If you have ZoneAlarm firewall cookie and ad blocking feature on your client computer (or similar), disable for the duration of install.
I tried the above but i got the same error.
2) If there is no session.save_path defined and/or the value for use_trans_sid is set to 1 (true) in your configuration, make the change suggested by OpenGeek at http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,2658.msg23321.html#msg23321 which will set the save path.
My /manager/includes/config.inc.php file contains only this "<?php //MODx configuration file ?>"
3) Your host is shit, get a new one.
I am not sure....
I winder Is there any way i can install ModX without changing my host?
I love ModX...

Actually, now you mention it, OpenGeek’s solution is pretty silly because it involves amending a file that is not created until the installation process is complete. Hmmmn.
However, if you *do* have ZoneAlarm firewall cookie and ad blocking features, and disabling them didn’t help, I suggest you attempt to complete the install on someone else’s computer (ideally someone less paranoid about cookies), just to rule out any lingering effects of cookie blocking (as sometimes they are hard to disable).
The majority of people who have had this issue and got past it have been due to client ’security’ settings.
The other thing to try would be installing the 0.9.5 Beta 2, which to my mind is just as stable as 0.9.2 and may have some minor bugfix I’m unaware of.
OK Greg,
first I am going to try installing frm another machine.
I will post the result here.
