      Note : Again, please use explicit title for your posts like "Problem with sessions configuration upon install" rather than "Urgent Help Please" which are not helpful. It will help attract people who are knowledgeable in this area !

      Ok, just finished trying to install ModX using a different system . But the same error ’ Checking if sessions are properly configured: Failed! " appears.
      Now what?

      Which different system ?

      I am by no means expert enough to explain it, but one thing I noticed comparing your phpinfo()

      I have

      session.use_trans_sid 0

      while yours is

      session.use_trans_sid On

      session.use_trans_sid whether transparent sid support is enabled or not. Defaults to 0 (disabled).

      URL based session management has additional security risks compared to cookie based session management. Users may send a URL that contains an active session ID to their friends by email or users may save a URL that contains a session ID to their bookmarks and access your site with the same session ID always, for example. -> see http://php.benscom.com/manual/en/ref.session.php

      Also I have

      session.bug_compat_42 On

      While you have

      session.bug_compat_42 Off

      session.bug_compat_42 boolean

      PHP versions 4.2.3 and lower have an undocumented feature/bug that allows you to initialize a session variable in the global scope, albeit register_globals is disabled. PHP 4.3.0 and later will warn you, if this feature is used, and if session.bug_compat_warn is also enabled. This feature/bug can be disabled by disabling this directive. -> See http://php.benscom.com/manual/en/ref.session.php

      Edit : Oops, I should have read more carefully Paul’s post above, there is definitely a problem when session.use_trans_sid is set to On, but modifying config.inc.php won’t help for installation...

      I suggest you follow up the thread from this message on :

        If you cannot touch you php.ini you can do try to add a new writeable (chmod 777) folder somewhere on your account, if possible not in your DocumentRoot. Then in /manager/include.inc.php add this:
        @ ini_set ('session.save_path', '/path/to/session/folder/');

        Add it also to the install file...

        Another alternative is to use a htaccess file command, but many hosters prefer to block changing PHP settings this way:
        php_value session.save_path '/path/to/session/folder/'

          I’ve merged two threads here, which looking back might actually not be that helpful. Ah well.

          Has anyone had a server session configuration problem that they have successfully solved?
            No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

            Boby,
            to which file I’ve to add this code ? @ ini_set (’session.save_path’, ’/path/to/session/folder/’);

            /manger/include/ ?

              It probably should be to manager/included/config.inc.php

                  You also have to add it on top of your install file /install/index.php, right above:
                  session_start();

                  Later Edit: That must be the full path to the writeable sessions folder and not relative to your DocumentRoot ...
                  Example:
                  @ ini_set ('session.save_path', '/var/www/sessions/');

                  And you hoster must allow changeing of PHP settings through ini_set or htaccess files.

                      If you want me to take a look at it, just PM me FTP/Cpanel and DB login info and I will try tonight.
