    Newbie question here that I'm sure has already been covered but none of the proposed solutions really fit my situation.

    I've been developing my MODx site and all has been going well. I was working on it before the domain was pointing to the server so to login into the manager I had to use the URL:

    http://64.40.114.105/~breatheh/manager/

    Now that I've pointed the domain to the server, every time I try to login at

    http://www.breathehotyoga.ca/manager/

    the login screen reloads and I receive no error message. The funny thing is the website is functioning normally at www.breathehotyoga.ca and I can still login to http://64.40.114.105/~breatheh/manager/ with no issues and manage the website that way.

    Admittedly, all I really want to do is tell my client to login at an easy-to-remember URL to manage the content instead of an IP address.

    Thoughts?

    Jeff

      Did you rerun Setup after re-pointing the domain? If not, try that.

        Thanks for the reply Bob!

        No I didn't run Setup again because I deleted my Setup folder upon completion of the install the first time. How do I get it back and will I overwrite any existing files that I already have in place?

        (BTW, I'm running MODx Revo 2.2)

          Just unzip the MODX package (make sure it's exactly the same version) on you local machine and transfer the setup directory to the modx root directory on the remote.

          Since you don't have a setup directory, you won't be overwriting anything in the transfer.

          When you run Setup, MODX will recognize that you have an install and will run Setup in upgrade mode (don't proceed if the "update existing" box isn't checked), so you won't lose any of your work. The only thing that should change is the path strings, which may solve your problem.

            Thanks Bob. I did as you suggested and the upgrade was successful but still the same issue. The odd thing is the following:
            1. I visit http://www.breathehotyoga.ca/manager and click the login button.
            2. The login page reloads without an error message.
            3. I then visit http://www.breathehotyoga.ca/~breatheh/manager, the Manager loads and I'm taken to the Dashboard. All is good.

            So it seems that I'm actually logging in the first time but I'm just not being taken to the proper page. Thoughts?

            Thanks!

              Hi Bob! You were absolutely right, it was simply a path string that needed changing. To fix my issue I did the following:
              1. located the file /core/config/config.inc.php and opened it.
              2. located the line $modx_base_url= '/~breatheh/';
              3. changed the line to read $modx_base_url= '/';
              4. saved my changes

              And that fixed it! After you suggested it could be a path string that needed changing I noticed that my site_url was outputting http://www.breathehotyoga.ca/~breatheh/ and since it's dynamically generated I thought I'd hunt for it in the config. Thanks a bunch Bob!

                If the config was writeable, running Setup should have done that for you.

                I'm glad you got it sorted. Thanks for reporting back. wink

                    Did you run setup/install after moving the site?

                    Do you have a base href tag in the head section of all templates?
