Hi, a quick question about Evo site caching:

If Evo serves up a cached page, is a DB connection still necessary at that moment?

For example, if the site’s DB was temporarily offline and a cached page was requested--Would Evo load the page from cache or would it error, complaining about no database connection?

I have tried installing evolution on my Mac 3 times. I am using the latest version of MAMP and everything else and am trying to install on Firefox. I am using mysql 5.5.9. I’ve never had a problem installing WordPress, but with modx each time I get the following horrowshow which has too many characters (over 30,000) to print in full:

        Help! MODx Evolution 1.0.5 (Jan 19, 2011)

MODx setup couldn’t install/alter some tables inside the selected database.

The following errors had occurred during installation

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ’TYPE=MyISAM COMMENT=’Contains data about active users.’’ at line 9 during the execution of SQL statement CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `modx_active_users` ( `internalKey` int(9) NOT NULL default ’0’, `username` varchar(50) NOT NULL default ’’, `lasthit` int(20) NOT NULL default ’0’, `id` int(10) default NULL, `action` varchar(10) NOT NULL default ’’, `ip` varchar(20) NOT NULL default ’’, PRIMARY KEY (`internalKey`) ) TYPE=MyISAM COMMENT=’Contains data about active users.’.

I think that’s a problem with the Type= attribute; newer versions of MySQL want Engine= instead. This has caused controversy in the development community for some time now. http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=17501

The solution is to open the .sql files from the install folder and replace the type= with engine=.

Thanks so much for your response. I changed text to engine in the sql files. But now I am trying to install again and can’t get beyond the database page. It seems I don’t understand what the table prefix should be. First time I just hit the default, but now the field is blank and nothing I try seems to work.

            Database Information
            Server connection and login information

Enter the database host (server name or IP address), the username and password before testing the connection.

            Database host:

            Database login name:

            Database password:
→ Test database server connection and view collations.
Connection to host: passed - collations now available
            Database information

Enter the database name to use or which you wish to create for this MODx install. If no database exists, the installer will attempt to create one. This may fail depending on the MySQL user permissions. Yikes,I’m on day 2 of trying to install this!!!!

            Database name:

            Table prefix:

            Connection method:

            Collation:
→ Create or test selection of your database.
Checking database: failed - database collation mismatch; use SET NAMES or choose latin1_swedish_ci

Hi, I have Joomla website already 4 years and I am thinking to find new CMS but of course because of lot of content which is hard to migrate manually, I would need 3 months to transfer all news and texts, I am interested to ask if there is any plugin/module to migrate content from Joomla 1.5.23 to newest stable MODx?
second question is: can I include in MODX (after I install it) videos from different video servers, not only youtube than vimeo, blip.tv, and many others? not all are necessary, but I would like to know how many video-servers I can use if I install MODx?

                Hello,
I’m an absolute newbie to MODx. I have two questions:
                1) Is it possible to create a multilingual site with MODx? I need to create the site where the user can switch the language.
                2) Are there build-in features that enable to register/login multiple users on a MODx site?

Yes, and yes. What exactly you would do depends on which version of MODx, Evo or Revo, you are using.
