I tried installing Modx on my macbook but I get install errors:
Checking if /assets/cache and /assets/cache/rss directories are writable: FAILED!
Checking if /assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php file is writable: FAILED!
Checking if /assets/cache/sitePublishing.idx.php file is writable: FAILED!
I then went to check

Can Modx be used as a DMS ?
How does it compare with Joomla ?
Can Modx help with search on pdf documents ?
Can Modx support drag-and-drop a file from the tree directory structure from the left screen onto the screen on the right if
the browser is partitioned into two halves ?
I’m looking to use a DMS/CMS to create a simple document management tool to be used on the internet, not intranet.
If Modx is not a good fit, could you recommend a couple for me to look into ?

I even tried chmod -R 0777 assets
and still the screen shows FAILED
is there anything wrong with Modx install script and web pages ?

MODx be used to upload pdf files and arranging them ?
The document manager seems to be for managing web pages and not external files.
How could one accomplish this with MODx, ie managing the pdf files uploaded to MODx ?
Any help is appreciated.
There may be an easier way, but I use the FileUpload snippet to upload the .PDF files and then put a custom snippet on the download page that reads the directory they are in, sorts them, and generates links to them (for download) on the page.
Hi every body!
First I should tell I’m a real newbie and just start to understand all this html and css things.
I just install Modx this week-end and started to play with the demo site. Everything was going fine. Then I logged out and when I tried to log in the day after, I just couln’t ... even if I’m 100% I was using the right user and password, it didn’t stop to tell me it was wrong.
I don’t know where to go (by the address bar) to log in so it was via the front-end site.
And today, the only thing I get is the blank page with the single sentence I wrote to tell people the site is underconstruction... no more demo site.
I’m a bit lost. I use to work with wordpress for my blog... so I supposed there is something that works in the same way to log in the admin.

Most probably I’m overlooking something very obvious, but being a newbie ...
Everytime I’m trying to change a document in the manager (edit resource) I see this message:
"Document is linked to site_start variable and cannot have publish or unpublish dates set!"
Why?
Any toughts?

This should only happen for one document (the actual home page -- usually at the top of the tree), and it should only happen when you try to set publish and unpublish dates for it.
If it’s happening to you all the time, something is wrong with your install. If it’s a new install, I’d try re-uploading and reinstalling.
