Hi everyone. This is my first post on this forum. I’ve been lurking here for a while and was able to find the answers to all of my questions so far but I finally found one that forced me to risk asking a stupid question.

I have installed the SMF Connector and I can’t get started on the word.doc instructions because when I click on Modules | Manage Modules | SMF Connector I get the message "Unable to load SMF settings. Please make sure that the SMF Path ’’ was entered correctly."

I checked my SMF Path in the SMF Server Settings but I can’t find where to check it in MODx. The message quoted below implies that there is something called php_info in the MODx manager but I can’t find it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cool, ModX is now more and more powerfull grin

Little question to install : HOW TO configure "the forum base path" if ModX and SMF are not on the same sub-domain ?

ex: Modx http://www.mysite.org and SMF http://forum.mysite.org (the directory of SMF is not a subdirectory of http://www.mysite.org)

Edit : I found the solution alone tongue. I used the php_info (in the manager) to have the real path.

Remark : In the configuration panel, the password for the administrator of SMF is visible !!! Not very secure shocked

Inside Manager > Administration > View System Info > in there you’ll see phpInfo() click on View and look for the path

Thanks. O.K. I found it but I don’t see anything in there about SMF at all or anything to help me eliminate this error message. It’s just information, nothing I can change.

If it is the path that was giving you some issues, in the phpinfo view the path your host has setup for you it will be listed in the phpinfo then put that path in the SMF mod, this should match whats in the phpinfo then it should work properly

That is my problem. I can’t do anything in the SMF mod. I can’t look at it to see if there is anything that needs changing. When I go to Modules | Manage Modules | SMF Connector is when I get the error message "Unable to load SMF settings. Please make sure that the SMF Path ’’ was entered correctly." I have no where to go from there.

This is my SMF path from "server settings"

Eureaka!! I’m in. Thanks. grin O.K. I’ve looked into this and here is what I did wrong... I actually took the instructions literally.

The one that got me in trouble is under "Getting Started" in the smf_readme.doc which says:
step 1
"The setup and configure your SMF Connector click on the Manage module menu option."
step 2
"Select the SMF connector from the list of installed modules by clicking on the name of the module. "

What it needs to say so that no one else ends up spending the many hours I did trying to debug this, reinstalling the module, and sending forum messages, is:

step 1
"To setup and configure your SMF Connector click on the Manage module menu option."
or better yet assume no knowledge of the manager and say
"To setup and configure your SMF Connector go to the MODx manager ([your site url]/manager) and click on Modules | Manage Modules."
step 2
"Click on the icon next to the SMF connector in the list of installed modules and select edit from the drop down list that appears."

While this may be obvious to someone who is experienced with MODx this was my first attempt to work with a module and it wasn’t at all obvious to me.

You may want to read the additional input I have offered on this here http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,5376.0.html although it does not relate to this module

I’m new here! I’m very interested in MODx.
This is what I’m currently using:

SMF 1.1 rc2
alsClassified ads pro (craiglist clone php)
home spun website www.my-yardsale.com (based on theme stripped from smf (poorly I might add))
MODx is offering, with this module/bridge to integrate 2 of 3 systems I need.

Is there a way, were I to use MODx and this mod/bridge to integrate the classifieds ads too?
This is a selling point for me on MODx.
Hope I made sense of it...
Thank you for any assistence!!
