Interesting, as that’s close to the version that Jaredc was running for Apache that was giving him fits as well, I think.

Okay a bit more information. First off, I cannot see this issue reported in the flyspray so as soon as I’ve posted this, I’ll write the whole thing up and submit it.
At least in my case, it only ever happens on a page that is not in the cache. As soon as a cache version has been generated, the problem goes away. As all of my pages are cacheable, and I use no snippets let alone ones that aren’t cacheable, it would not show up for you guys unless nobody had previously looked at the page since a site refresh, so if someone wants a ’live’ demo, then drop me an email and we can try to coordinate a refresh/test scenario.
It happens even after setting the php timeout to some high number
When it happens, the white page (actually in IE it is a "The page cannot be displayed" error page) comes up near immediately. In other words, it would not appear to be anything to do with a server timeout.
It happens with or without friendly URLs
However, in IE and without friendly URLs, when it happens, rather than coming up with an error page, it actually offers to download index.php.
Of lesser significance perhaps, as they are purely empirical, it appears to happen slightly more frequently in IE6.0 than in FF1.5, and slightly more frequently on pages with more (or larger) images.
One thing you can try to eliminate the "cache" factor or make the problem to consistent is to lock the cache folder and make not writable to see if you get a more repeatable pattern.
One more thing empty out all of your cache whether it is on the server or all of your browser cache.
That’s an interesting discovery.
Can you disable all the cache for several pages, and access the site page. Will it happen to you, because I’m assuming that the problem only occured when the page is hasn’t been cached yet. So it means by disabling cache, the page will never show up then.
Please report back, and I would love to test out your site, with certain pages that you’re not using cache.
Sincerely,
You can get it

But we sure have to understand this and fix it...
I didn’t have time yet, but did anyone follow up on my http tracer suggestion ?

Davidm,
What I’ll do is keep this installation hanging around so that we can test it and so on, but I’ll install 0.9.0 into a different directory so that I can get it live.
I did try http tracer but something was causing the links to be absolute, so I got no information for any page apart from the front page (as it was bypassing the tracer proxy). Having said that, I didn’t persevere for very long so it may well be worth somebody else trying it out too. The bug is submitted in flyspray by the way, but has not been confirmed yet. Hopefully my setting the four pages to be uncachable will help in that regard.
Cheers for the link.
Thanks a lot for all the explanation, the help, and the FlySpay precision (didn’t catch it).
;D
