But are all the snippets called in those cached pages cached? I’ve been suspecting for some time that there might be some kind of subtle bug in there, but I haven’t been able to put my finger on it exactly.

Which performance option is this? I couldn’t find anything on the forum. Do you mean php script_execution_time? If so, the site is hosted on my ISP and I don’t have access to the ini file to change that.

Actually, sorry scratch that. I can change it locally with ini_set (just tested), so I’ll give that a try.

You can also set it with a function:

I changed the script timeout (I assume it is fine to do that in index.php) and it appeared to be better and I was just about to send a reply saying it seemed to be fixed, when it started happening again. I noticed something else about it this time. From the main page, I clicked on downloads, which is aliased to DownLoads.htm[sic], and a blank page appeared, but when I hit back, it went to the downloads page, so it is as though it has somehow followed two links.

Has anybody got any suggestions where I might begin to look for the the cause of this problem? I cannot put the site live until I have resolved it one way or another, and I’m very keen to put it live this week.

Would going back to a previous version help?
Is there a likely place I can start looking to see if there is a bug (in the alias or redirect stuff perhaps)?
Maybe it is a server issue with timeouts although I doubt that
Is there a better way than using aliases for internal (onsite) links?

I really hope I can do something to help sort this issue out but at present I don’t know where the best place to start looking is.

              Regards,
              Lee

I never had this problem so far... but your reports are alarming. The randomness of it all make it hard to pin down : is it the server config ? is it the cached snippets ? Is it memory limit or script timeout ? Lot to look into and yeah, pretty critical problem...

Maybe http tracer could help here...

Anyway, has anyone logged this as a bug report in FlySpray ?

That’s just it. It doesn’t really provide much in the way of clues. That’s why it’s so frustrating to me.

It solved the issue for me.

It happened to me regardless of using aliases or not. So it doesn’t appear to be related to FURLs (friendly urls).

I doubt that too. I thought it might be a server issue too at first since NO one was having the problem... or at least admitting to it wink But then I made full copies of my site and put them on two different servers and had the same problems. As far as internal links, as a general rule of thumb, I always use the [~ID~] method of link creation as it will create correct links whether I have FURLs on or not.

Me either. Susan might be onto something with the cacheing... but it happened to me whether I had caching on or not (either at the snippet, or page level or both - I tried it all). It’s a really mysterious issue...

The server with the problems is a Panther version of OS X server 10.3 (correct?), but I recall it also exhibited it on a Linux testing server. Is that right?

The server displaying the problem for me is running Linux:

                      Red Hat: 7.3
                      Apache: 1.3.27
                      PHP: 4.3.10
                      MySQL: 3.23.49
