Little suggestion as well; perhaps you could add an ’export’ option of a certain category, that would make it very easy to release your files in the Resource Wizard-way, easier than the regular way as you wont have to copy everything into separate textfiles wink (I’m sorry if this has been suggested before or is on the todo list already)

That is EXACTLY the way I would prefer to do it. a simple export. Problem is, what do you do with all the resource dependencies? You know... sub-folders, javascript files, css, libraries... I would have to turn the Resource Wizard into a full fledged FTP service just to upload the secondary resources to be zipped up along with the actual resource code. Do know, however, that the ’export’ option was my first intention, there is just no "REASONABLE" way to do that right now if you understand all the dependencies a complex snippet can have.

I hope this helps to explain why the ’export’ option got cheesed out by the ’copy everything into separate text files’ option. It is a legendary idea... it will happen.... I just need to figure out the logic and the logical way to handle it.

I’ve not had chance to play with this yet - does it let you add db tables during install?

That depends what you mean. Do you mean does it create the tables your snippet needs to store data? no, your snippet should be clever enough to check if the table exists on first run and create it if it does not. I have a little php class that checks for the existence of a specific table then, creates it (with the modx table prefix, using the DBAPI) if it does not exist. If you want to use it, I can PM it to you.

I’m not a coding expert so I’m afraid I can’t help you much with that, but I’m very glad to hear I’m not the only one who would love that idea wink
The logical way (from my perspective) would be to let the users chmod the assets folders and let the Wizard simply creative the structure again in a compressed file but then with the used files, though then, even for me, I see some trouble on how to determinate what files are used due to the big amount of available ways to import them, but I’ll leave the designing up to you as you’re doing a fantastic job wink

          Hi, Leftblank.
I don’t know if you understand the problem. The wizard can already make a folder, make a file inside that folder, save the contents of a form to the file, then zip the whole folder, give you a link to download it, then clean up the directory (delete the zip and folders) after you are done. I have this working on a local copy. Why is it not in the release? simple... it is useless to zip up a folder with one file in it containing the snippet code, and one file called install.php. If you examine my module "SkinGraft" you will notice that for it to work properly, there are 8 files, 5 folders (with subfolder), and a preview image. This kind of structure is not uncommon in MODx resources. Check out Ditto and Jot. So how to get ALL those other files and folders into the zip that the wizard is creating? Fuck if I know? turn the wizard into a full fledged FTP application so I can upload all the files, create folders, upload each file into the subfolders, etc... It might just be easier to zip it on my local machine and use the Resource Wizard to generate the install.php file so I don’t get any errors or typos if I make it myself.

Hope that clears it up. There is no logical way to make a zip with all the required files on your server. It would take way to many steps for the user, and at that point, it is just easier and less frustrating to do it on your desktop. you dig?

SkinGraft 1.0 is the first resource I have tried installing using the resource wizard. And just to be clear, when installing the Resource Wizard is when I saw the PHP Warnings for a few seconds before it was redirected to a 404 page. Do you have another resource you suggest I try to see if it works? Also, what is the best way to determine if I have the required zip libraries? phpinfo()? I do know that in the cpanel’s file manager, I can unzip files that I have uploaded via FTP.

When you downloaded the Resource Wizard, there is a sub folder called "Wizard modxpkg samples". try some of those just to see if it works.
If you are getting errors and redirects, something was probably not installed properly. You might also try reinstalling the resource wizard, but I am guessing you already tried that with similar results.

You’re right, I was thinking too simple about it (excuse me for that), just wanted to air my thoughts as well.

Hi Scotty, installed your Modx Resource Wizard, but I have this error trying to install any resource packages (samples and SkinGraph1):

This does not appear to be a valid MODx Resource Wizard package.

That is the same problem I am having. I saw some php "warnings" flash to the screen during the installation of the Resource Wizard, did you? I haven’t had the change to try and manual install the resource wizard to see if the auto install that is generating the php warnings is causing the problem.

                      Scotty,

I am having the same problem. I run through the install and click finish. Then it flashes another screen full of PHP errors. I can see "permission denied" on many of them. I have attempted this many times.

Also I couldn’t deleted the files/folders that were installed. I kept getting "permission denied". Looking further I found that all the files/folders were assign to owner "nobody" and that’s why I could delete them. I had to delete them from root level.

I will guess that the reason why the install didn’t work is because of this owner issue - but hey what do I know smiley

                      Hopefully this will help.

                      Regards,

                      Ken
