When you setup MODx and you were entering your database info, did you use "localhost" or an IP address such as "123.12.123.45"?

If you used "localhost" then you are on the same machine as the MySQL server and you can connect with the socket.

The other thing to note is that mrw.php includes your MODx config file, so to connect to your database, it uses the exact same info that you entered for MODx to connect to the database. So again, if MODx is not running properly, this would all be less surprising franklos, but I can only assume that MODx IS running, or you would not be concerned about getting MRW working, but focused on getting MODx working, so, I am stuck for a solution for you at the moment.

Its all running om my ISP.
Which allready is a problem as they do not want to enable mod_rewrite so I dont think I will be able to use FURL but thats another problem. They even wont turn of regiser_globals to off, hey this is Italy.
Connections over here in Italy are so bad, that running a local server is no option unless I just want to be the only one to view my page myself.
This is the url: mysql.linguamici.it which resolves in: 195.128.235.43. On my host.
Will this be a problem using your Resource Wizard?

I think there may be some confusion here on the term "localhost"

In computing the term localhost refers to the location of the currently used system. It is a loopback device which is assigned the IP address 127.0.0.1 in IPv4, or ::1 in IPv6, which can be used by TCP/IP applications to talk to themselves if this is needed.

This does not mean "Your computer", or "the computer you are typing on right now" unless you are running you internet server from your day to day computer. Most people are not.

The term "localhost" here DOES refer to the computer that your web server lives on. In some cases, the MySQL database does not live on the same computer as your web pages (this is uncommon as there are various security implications). If MySQL does NOT live on the same computer, then trying to connect via socket may cause problems, but as mrw.php uses THE EXACT SAME CONNECTION that MODx uses, if MODx is working, then something else is causing the problem. I am not certain to why you are getting the socket error, but I would forward the error to your host as they may be able to offer you more insight into the origin of the error.

Got yout point, localhost in this case should have the same ip as my www.linguamici.it. So the isp´s server in this case is the localhost. Anyway they (www.linguamici.it & msql.linguamici.it) should reside on the same machine. Pinging the msql.linguamici.it gives me ip 195.128.235.180 and for the msql.linguamici.it resolves 195.128.235.43.
The first one s dynamic the second oye static. Probably not one the same machine, so looping backis not an option.
I´ ll leave it here as my ISP is not very cooperative. Thanks a lot anyway,

            Frank.

Franklos, I feel that this is getting more complicated than it ever should be, so let’s step back a bit.

              1) if MODx is working with MySQL, then mrw.php will also work, given that it is placed in the right directory.

              a) if you MODx root is /home/franklos/public_html/ then mrw should be in that folder.
              b) if you MODx root is /home/franklos/public_html/modx/test/ then mrw should be in THAT folder.

what mrw.php does is load the config file from manager/includes/, so if there is no manager folder in the same directory as mrw.php it will fail, or if it can not READ your config file, then it will fail too.

I just want to make sure, before we do any further debugging here, that mrw.php is in the right spot and that the config file can be read (if MODx is working, it can be read).

What seems to get you somewhere? what did you change?
Did you not have the file mrw.php in the correct place?

To address the errors, try adding the following line right under the opening <?php tag:
                  ini_set('allow_url_include', 'true');

and if you read this forum thread, specifically page 9 of this forum thread, you will clearly see that this has been addressed. It is important to review this thread first, as a problem YOU are having may be fixed or at least addressed already. That is, after all, the purpose of this forum. Please be kind and not forum-selfish. It is one of the things that separates a great forum with useful information from a cluster fucked forum with no usability.

                      Cool!

Two more questions for you then:

                      • what did you change earlier to get it to at least start generating errors? (I asked you before, but you never answered)
                      • Is it working correctly now?
