Ditto randomly stopped sorting things correctly? [not solved, but not modx prob]

On my site I’ve been using Ditto since February with no problems. Mark and Jason helped me set it up, so I’m quite sure it was set up properly.

I added a new entry to my site almost 2 weeks ago and everything worked as normal for about a week following. Then, suddenly and without explanation Ditto started displaying stuff in the wrong order.

The site structure is as follows:

Home >
Episodes >
Season 1 >
Season 2 >
Season 3 >
Season 4 >
Season 5 >

Normally, since I am in the fifth season, it would show on the front page the 6 most recent episodes of season 5 in reverse chronological order. so the top-most episode would be this weeks, followed by the episode that preceded it, and so on.

But starting earlier this week, for some reason (and without my even logging into the manger since it worked fine for week) it started listing episodes in chronological order starting in season 1. so when you hit the front page of the site instead of seeing the most recent episode at the top, you see the very first episode from years and years ago... i can’t figure it out!

Bet they upgraded the server to MySQL 5.0.51, in which case there’s not really a solution that doesn’t involve a version change away from that version of MySQL.

That sounds scary. Like you’re saying that my site will not work anymore with this webhost. What a nightmare.

Truly, any version but 5.0.50 or 5.0.51. It’s very frustrating indeed that these releases made it out with this critical error, and even more frustrating that web hosts are not better informed about the issue, especially with the big push to upgrade to PHP 5. I would appeal to your host to find another MySQL version to deploy.

well, i have good news and bad news...

the good news is that my host is running MySQL version 5.0.45 (not 5.0.50 or 5.0.51)!

the bad news is that now we’re back to square one trying to solve this thing.

any other ideas what might allow me to fix this problem?

Hmmm. If it was the db error, you would notice sorting problems in the manager tree as well. Are you positive the server version is 5.0.45 and not just the client library? Otherwise, any Ditto experts want to offer any potential advice?

i’m pretty sure. they don’t mention any other versions anywhere i can find in my cpanel. it is worth noting that i DO believe something on the server changed. the cpanel looks different than it used to, so it does look like the host must have changed something around on their end. but i don’t get why this would effect ditto and nothing else. i mean, i could see it breaking everything, but to just break ditto is very curious to me.

here’s the info the server gives me about itself:
Platform Type: Debian
MySQL Version: 5.0.45
Perl Version: 5.8.8
PHP Version: 4.4.7

then it has a couple of huge long lists. one for installed pearl modules, and another for pear modules. both have tons of stuff listed. there’s no mention of a client library that i can find. but i really don’t understand mysql so maybe i’m just not looking in the right place.

i can say with certainty that my modx manager doesn’t return any errors other than the one about "register globals" being on when it should be off. but it’s given me this error since moving to the latest version of modx and has always worked fine, so i don’t think it’s that. and in the manager, my site structure seems to be in the same order it’s always been in.

also, perhaps worth noting, my site also has an rss feed, this feed doesn’t use Ditto (it uses some custom snippet mark (i think) wrote called "PodcastFeedx9". whatever changed doesn’t seem to have effected this snippet in the same way it did Ditto.

Could you provide the debug data for Ditto? Information on how to retrieve it can be found on the policy sticky in this board.

the contents of the debug file it generated were too long to be pasted in here, even when i tried to break it up into smaller chunks (it said i was over the 30k character limit even when my word processor begged to differ). the file it exported is named "ditto2.1b4_debug_doc1.html" and is uploaded here:

Try upgrading to the latest development version to see if maybe a file got altered. If the problem persists, please post the debug output from that version as well.
