What exactly is the status of FoxyBack? It seems to be recommended to do many things, but this thread and the code is significantly stale. Earlier posts by TheManCan indicated that there were several things planned for the next release. Has anything been developed?
Ouch, you’re right on with your point about the code being stale. I work for The Man Can, and we’ve spent a lot of time on other projects, and no time on FoxyBack. I’m not the original author, but I am the current maintainer, and a quick look shows 15+ bugs in our Google Code repository that need to be addressed. I consider the code in our repository to be alpha or pre-beta quality.

We’ve gotten it running on three different sites, but then again, we’re the original developer. That said, it was a painful process to get it all working each time, with much testing needed.

You’ll need to use phpMyAdmin to run the sql/foxyback-install.sql against your MODx database. Back up your database first, as this creates a bunch of pages, chunks, and snippets. Drop the Foxyback folder into your assets/snippets/foxyback/ folder.

It doesn’t require more than a out-of-the-box MODx; 0.9.6.3 should be just fine. A quick look shows that it requires the Bounce and Redirect snippets. Will also work with FoxyCart 0.4, and likely later versions.

Foxyback is
supposed to automatically create the tables that it needs; see create statements in includes/foxyback.tables.php. Those statements will automatically run if you don’t have any tables in your schema with ’foxyback’ in the name -- see Foxyback::isInstalled and FoxyBack::firstRun in foxyback.class.inc.php.
I’m a little embarrassed by the sorry state of the project; as it stands, it’s only intended for people who like to get their hands dirty with PHP and can make the time to read the code and understand how it all fits together, which I admit is a difficult task. Please post further questions here or on our Google Code project.
I’m going to try to make some time for a major redesign of Foxyback, as it has the potential to be an enormously useful tool for the community. As it is right now, it doesn’t feel very MODx-like, the install process is way too difficult, and parts of the code are just plain funky. We’re going to discuss the future of this project and decide what’s best for the project and the community.
