[PLUGIN] SEO Strict URLs

Thanks, davidm. Definitely a +1 vote for me ...That many less steps for me during installs!

The way the solution is now, the internal rewriting is done, then the plugin rewrites the rewrites. We’d need to replace the internal mechanisms.

Means this will get faster when integrated then, nice !

Not meaning to get off topic but I think the CustomAlias plugin would sit nice along with this one (SEO and aliases are tightly linked, IMHO, and the fact that the current core alias auto-generation is not handling accents is a downer for international users like me)... any thoughts on that matter ?

If someone can put those two together and post up a set of files we can vet and examine, I think it’s safe to say we’ll commit them for a soon-future release. On a related front, it might make sense to have a configuration option added to the manager to switch between legacy and new URL writing modes for existing sites (just add another radio option to one of of the config params).

@rthrash, you read my mind! Definitely should not be a plugin, rather part of the MODx FURLs, as well as config options to enable/disable somehow.

I will work with Apoxx to test/validate a core-implementation of this. I know that he also had some additional plans, although they may no longer be necessary.

As for the custom aliases, I agree it’d be nice for it to be extended where possible.

I agree that integration into the core would be ideal. I’d like to see an option somewhere in the Friendly URLs configuration that allows users to enable/disable "strict" rewriting and an override option in the meta data section.

When I have some free time today, I’ll checkout the latest subversion and look into integrating this. I’ll also take a look at the custom aliases plugin.

I’ve installed the plugin and I have a problem with url containing &tags (for Ditto and TvTagCloud) : &tags=tags just disapear from the url and instead of listing documents with selected tag, Ditto lists the all documents without taking in account the &tag (normal because &tags=tags no more appears in url).

Any idea to resolve that ? Thanks for this plugin

@Perrine: What version of the plugin are you using? I added support for preserving the query string upon redirect, and it appears to be working for me. I may not be understanding correctly, could you perhaps provide me with a specific case/scenario?

Here is an example: http://brianstanback.com/blog/one?x=test (notice how it redirects to one.html but x=test is preserved) Please note that id= and q= will be stripped for the moment, because they conflict with parameters expected by MODx.

Click on transport in tag cloud : the result should only return "Metro et Sardines" but it outpus 3 articles (and there is 3 documents in database).

Please, note also that I’ve tried to add .html at the end of url, but it doesn’t change the problem

@Perrine: Hmmm, I haven’t read through the tags setup yet, so I’m not sure what they recommend for link setup.

Normally, I would format it as:
http://www.jauraisduluidire.com/mots-cles?tags=travail
rather than:
http://www.jauraisduluidire.com/mots-cles&tags=travail

Using the question mark instead of an ampersand on the first parameter seems to send the proper query string. Nice design by the way.
