I used Joomla a long time ago, I just couldn’t stand the way you have to go to multiple places to do anything. So hard to remember, but that was a long time ago, maybe it is better now.

Recently I used ExpressionEngine. They have a great community but the CMS itself is plain weird. The way templates work in EE is just unlogical, my brain hurts just to think about it. Also it is not a flexible as ModX. I love the way you can put ModX tags anywhere, even in the content, it just works.

WordPress is good for simple website development and excellent if you want to make a blog, but I wouldn’t use it to make a complex website.

              ExpressionEngine

              Concrete5

              Joomla

              Article Manager 2

              CMS Made Simple

              WordPress

              SilverStripe

              Mambo

              TextPattern

              ...

I personally find MODx to be the most intuitive and flexible, with ExpressionEngine in second place.

I tried with MODx but just couldn’t get me head around it! Too many features distracting me and blurring what I wanted to do. This says more about my concentration than ModX.

I looked around and found WOLFcms which is alot simpler, but does not have as many features.

There are distinct similarities with linking to page ids, snippets and using css, js from a files system. With less distractions it helped me as a stepping stone to use modX.

I just used wolf to build a site called eco friendly technology, however this process helped me with what I needed to know to use ModX as my CMS for the bigger projects.

I always keep coming back to MODx as it has always stood out to me as THE CMS/F. As a designer I just needed to get my dev skills up to the right level.

I used Etomite, but had some head butting moments, tried Wordpress, and made do, basically, with that, I have never been very happy with WP. I am looking forward to trying Modx, seems to have some neat features I look forward to testing out.
