MODx is great, but knowing how to use it well makes it perfect!

      Welcome Rajcio!

It seems you’ve really done your homework. I would suggest to really get a good handle on CSS and XHTML first. The PHP, that’s a good bonus. I am sure you’ve read about modx, that it doesn’t box you into a corner but gives you the freedom to do basically what you want to do and design sites that look the way you want them to look. Wishing you all the best and hope you choose modx!

      cheers/k

Silverstripe? What do you think guys? Is here anybody who used them both to make basic comparison?

It’s so easy, just like wordpress.
But AFAIK, the user leveling is too simple.
Once they change it, it can be a major player.
There is also Concrete5, that the simplicity is so wonderful.

Modx actually depends on the developer who build it.
It’s so easy to extend, yes. But not that easy.
At least, you need to know some knowledge about programming (like you) to make the maximum and complex result.
Anyhow, anyone can still use it like a common blog site with the available free templates around.

There are pros and cons, but actually all arguments are against the 0.9.3 version, which the development apparently is being on hold to focus on the Revolution *beta* version.
We are all waiting it to be released (as it is also noticed and monitored by other CMS programmers - even by the SilverStripe developers- that it is THE FIRST CMS that built on ExtJs Framework).
It will be a big shot!

0.9.6.3 is not being ignored by the dev team. In fact we anticipate it being around for a long time. The next release there will be 1.0.

Revo, on the other hand, is really cool I have to admit. After a very brief adjustment period you’ll find yourself loving it. Keeps the great bits from Evo, but adds a whole additional level of capability!

I recently reviewed both SilverStripe and Concrete5. I’m not considering to swap MODx for something else but to learn about other systems and maybe even have a new ideas.

SilverStripe admin is great. Especially adding images and files is implemented with style and ease. The major problem is the lack of template variables or anything even close of them. There is only one content area and that’s it. Without TVs editing content is a way too complicated for average end-user.

Conrete5’s main attraction seems to be nice inline editing and quite simple editing overall from front-end. But unfortunately Concrete5 relies on block style content creation that is restricting page layouts badly. Basic 1-2-3 column layouts should work fine but what if you want something different? And again for average end-user there is too many things (blocks) you can add and mess the page layout completely.

Hello everyone - I’m pretty much new here. And what I tried before heading to MODX - I have tried Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress, Umbraco, GraffitiCMS. I had been lookin around for a good flexible CMS. Drupal is a nice tool but its templating is a pain in the rear. Joomla - is nice but a bit slow. Then I came across MODX when I read someone’s twitter - it had Silver(something), MODX, and etc. So took a peek and tried out MODX. So - I have to say so far I am very impressed with what I have been seeing with MODX - the flexibility is awesome. I still have ways to learn but I’ll pick it up. I had been looking for a good CMS - because I have a project that I needed to complete by this weekend. And it looks like with MODX - I just might be able to do that!

THanks for making an awesome CMS! Keep up the great work!

Hello everyone - I’m pretty much new here.

Welcome to MODx. Hope you find it to be what you are seeking for. There is two things that make me stay with MODx, the CMS/CMF it self, with it’s flexibility, and the community. It’s just the greatest! laugh
I think, thererfor I am! But what I am, and why...?

You mentioned Umbraco. Sometimes we’re forced to use a Microsoft/.NET platform (despite efforts to put the site on LAMP) and as .NET CMS it looks pretty good, at least from the outside (tried an install on XP (not Server) and never got past that. From the outside it looks a little like a .NET MODx. How is it?
