Notepad! tongue Oh well and ’HTML Editor’. smiley

I realized though that using a CMS/CMF is very likely to improve productivity, thus invested almost 2 weeks in testing around 50 PHP CMS solutions.
The test ended with 2 winners, one of them being MODx. kiss

(Btw, I am thinking about writing a little summary of the tests and their results.
Might prove interesting for some ppl or/and helpful to save a lot of time for going through that.)

Please do, it’s always interesting to read these kind of comparisons.

I would *love* to see that. I’m always looking at MODx from the inside and communicating with people who agree with me about how great it is. I’d would be really helpful to see a comparison from an outsider’s perspective.

Okay, I will see if I have enough time in one of the next days. Still got a lot of other things to sort. smiley

I also need to think about how detailed to make it. If it’s too detailed, it will be able to fill a book and no one
will bother reading it (and too much work for me laugh). If it’s too short, it won’t be much more than old news.
Gotta be something inbetween I guess.

                  Thought that was obvious.  wink

There is in my opinion only one CMS that can really keep up with MODx at the moment and whether you use MODx or Drupal, fully depends on your situation (e.g. task, environment, time frame etc.).  smiley

Hello everyone! I’m new here but I’ve heard You (the Modx Community) are great and helpful!

I’ve never used any CMS/CMF systems for building complete websites but I’ve tested a lot of them looking for flexible solution, including straight learning curve, because simultaneously I’m learning CSS, XHTML, and PHP basics. I think MODx is currently the best solution for me. Am I right guys?

I’ve tested Drupal, Joomla, Typolight, Jaws, MODx... These are my impressions:

Drupal - flexible but to do simple things you have to click, click, click, click and one more time click! You spend more of your time wondering how to do simple things. Customizing Templates is terrible. HUGE job to adopt your own template to Drupal and get it working well... That’s not for me! Yes, the documantation of doing this is impressive but what the hell is CMS for? To help you, or to do things more complicated?

Joomla - using it i noticed a particular similarity - among CMS systems Joomla is like The SIMS among games. Easy, contains a vast range of addons, but what’s the purpose of it? wink

Typolight - great CMS, great documentation, but it’s hard to make it simplier for clients. Exaple: Client wants only ability to add Article. But to do this he/she has to know what is Module, News, adding content for end-user can be very difficult. It’s designed for someone who has got basic knowlege about this CMS. It’s bad because client wants to look at the site, wants to se button like "Add Article", wants to fill it with the contet, click "published" and see it on the frontpage... With Typolight it’s almost impossible.

Jaws Project - it was almost as interesting as MODx, until i saw style.css file. No documentation, poor community, seems recently to be not developed (since 3 moths not updated). But it’s a piece of good soft. Idealy to customize it for end-user. Simplicity + speed! Unfortunately, I’m not CSS master (yet wink) and cannot cope with the CSS files included in this CMS templates...

Finally - MODx - guys what to talk about? You have just said everything about it here. I only want to add I can’t wait till the MODx Revlution Beta Candidate is released! smiley
