Hi Ben - brilliant plugin - works like a charm - many thanks for great plugin for Modx

Have it working on a site I’m developing at the minute. Just noticed that I’d inadvertently left open the homepage containing the slider (currently only has two test images in it) and that has been sat in Safari for over a week and I got an alert from my host regards bandwidth usage - turns out that over a 1.5GB has been used and I traced it to the 2 images being downloaded over and over again as the slider flips between the two. Any ideas on how to avoid this?

    Cheers

      Phil,

Interesting, maybe changing the gallery call to be run cached will solve this?

This issue might be solved for the next release since I found out how to use the absolute image path with gallery, now what I need to get working is re-sizing the images again before I can release the next version which has thumbnail support as well.

Thanks for the feedback and donation Phil, I really appreciate the support from the MODx community.

      P.S. Check your email smiley

        Hi Ben,

Thanks for the great plugin, it works really nice. I have only one question, I want to use the slider on every page with the same pictures, like a banner. What is the best way to accomplish this.

        Thanks for advice.

          Hi Ben,

Thanks for making this plug-in, it was just what I was looking for. This is my first modx project, although I know a little html & css already.

I am having trouble styling it the way i would like.

I have duplicated your nivoGallery Template, and duplicated the nivoDefaultCss Chunk and included it in the nivoTheme Template Variable so it can be selected in the duplicated nivoGallery Template, which is then applied to my resource. It correctly styles the comment background to red, but none of the graphics for arrows or image markers show, they are replaced by text versions. I presume this is because the graphics files are not being found (but the css is?). My file structure is this:

          assets/NivoGallery/nivoSlider/themes/default2/default.css etc...

You can view an online example:

Project 1 with your default theme works fine:
          http://modx.davidhunterdesign.com/index.php?id=2

Project 2 with a duplicated theme doesn’t work properly:
          http://modx.davidhunterdesign.com/index.php?id=3

I’m sure this must be something very basic I’m doing wrong due to my lack of experience with modx and html&css.

          Thanks for your help!

          David

            Thanks for responding Lucy,

Yes, I have copied all the files over. I have attached a screengrab from the modx manager showing the structure and files in the default2 folder.

            any ideas?...

              good idea Lucy!

yep it works fine, the graphics for arrows and bullets are there and the comment background is styled red. so i’m not sure what the problem is when i am duplicating them, and i do need more than one style version of the nivogallery.

i have a new style for each page (not yet implemented, i’m only using default and default2 at the moment to test it out) because they will eventually be categories with many projects and each category will be colour coded. i would like to have different coloured bullets for each category and maybe some other colour based styling. so this is why i will need multiple styles for the nivogallery.

i’ll give that class idea a go, i was simply trying to replicate the structure for themes already setup; default, orman, pascal.

hopefully Ben will see this and have a solution.

                thanks Lucy.

ok might have solved it after looking at the original nivo slider docs. i needed to add my new theme to the nivoGallery Chunk which has some conditionals about when a theme is selected in the Template Variable. I think that was my missing link.

                  Thanks for your help Lucy.

                    viktor,

Just copy the 3 chunks in the nivoGallery template to whatever template you are using making sure they are in the same places in the other templates.

                     [[*nivoTheme]]

Needs to be in the head of your document.

                    [[*nivoGallery]]

Needs to be where you want your gallery placed.

                    [[*nivoScripts]]

Needs to be before your closing body tag since its all javascript.

Hope that helps and thanks for using NivoGallery.

I’m thinking he had intended the style.css file for our own edits. If you take a look at it I believe there are comments to that effect. So you can override the default.css there. (Double-check that it gets called after the default.css in your template)

Lucy you are correct the style.css file is where you should add your css to customize the arrows you shouldn’t edit any of the other css files that come with NivoGallery.

As for adding your own css in the drop down menus in order for them to be selectable you can duplicate the nivoDefaultCss chunk and insert the path to your new css file there.

Then you need to add this the new chunk to the nivoTheme TV in the inputs tab in the following format:

                      Your Theme Name == [[$yourChunkName]]

Make sure to put double pipes || every time you insert a new value in the nivoTheme TV options.

Hope that answers your question and thanks for using NivoGallery.
