The simplest method would be to use .htaccess to remove the extension.

I have used those products you mentioned -- and no thank you.

You can remove the extensions from the content types if you would like.

I thought the last word was we couldn’t remove it. I do realize this thread is quite old and many things have changed.

There was a bug in the UI that prevented it in a specific release, but you have always been able to change/remove the extension in Revo.

I could remove the file extension, but still couldn’t access the content without adding a .html to the address bar e.g. /contact = 404 /contact.html works fine. Did anyone find a workaround for this?

I had the same problem after removing the file extension from the HTML content type. I later realized that I had forgotten to clear the site cache (Site->Clear Cache) in the Manager. After doing this the friendly URLs worked like a charm without adding .html smiley

When using mod_rewrite for this purpose, it’s very useful to know that putting the rewrite rules inside your apache config (httpd.conf) yields much better performance than using .htaccess files.

The apache config is read ones during startup and every rule is put into memory.
When using .htaccess files, each time the directory is accessed, the file is read and not cached / stored.

Specially large-traffic sites will benefit from this.

True okdan... it’d be good to include a page in the docs on optimizing Apache requests -- it’s a big topic though.

I have a situation where I’m in the process of building a site. The site, as yet, does not have a domain name pointing to it (will later and will have a .com TLD). Right now, the site is online, but is using an ip type of address to access (http://XX.XXX.XXX.XXX/~client/index.php).

When I followed the tutorial to create friendly URLs I was unsuccessful, resulting in error messages...the site was essentially down. The only thing I could think of was the use of the above type of address in the .htaccess file instead of a domain which had a TLD in it.

Does the .htaccess file need to have a full domain name in order for it to work?

                  Thanks in advance.

In the settings on the documentation it shows 17 settings however in the version I am using 2.0.8pl it shows only 11 as per screenshot.

Have things changed since the tutorial was written or do I need to add the new settings.

                    thanks

The current version wont let me change the extension to nothing or adding a new content type without an extension so I am forced to have pages ending in .html

Is there any fixes for this?

                      Using version 2.0.8.
