So I downloaded and installed the beta today. Is anyone else experiance exterely slow respnse times? It takes anywhere from 5 - 30 seconds for pages to load in the new manager.

I had to re-build apache/php with the pdo components. Not sure what the problem could be.

    Anyone have any ideas?

It’s not quite that slow for me, but yeah, any time I click to do something it takes about 3-5 seconds for the Loading box to finish and things to change. I’m sure this will get worked out as the development progresses, so I can’t complain. smiley

Surely that’s a lot quicker than loading a whole new page?

The manager really is a "web 2.0 application", which means it looks tight and integrated. The problem with that is we expect it to perform like a compiled application! While I’m sure some performance tweaks can be made by the team, every ajax request is still going to depend on your network connection quality, which means it will introduce delays into the interactions with the application.

There are also some issues with the various browsers’ javascript engines.

It works much faster for me in Chrome then in Firefox so I assume the wait is not so much network latency but javascript processing time.

Agreed, it must be the javascript. I just tried it in safari and the manager responded much faster.

              Thanks everyone for you input.

Using it in the Firefox 3.5 beta with tracemonkey enabled works well for me, comparable to chrome. I like the new manager overall, although I’d prefer it if the accordion effect for the resources/elements/files didn’t force the others to collapse when one is activated. I have vertical screen real estate to spare, and being able to decide what is hidden and what shows would be nice. Otherwise it works great for me, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it is optimized during the beta period smiley

Make sure you’re not running Firebug or any other XHR/HTTP/JS monitoring or profiling plugins in your browser. These slow down JS apps significantly.

It works fast for me too. The only problem I see is the excesive use of EXT JS, for example in selects. While an html "select" would load at the moment, the use of javascript for loading the elements of the "selects" cause an unjustified ( in my opinion ) delay.
