    Hi all, first post on this forum so a formal hello and Kudo’s on an excellent product to the developers and community.

    I chose this thread because it is very active, I have a couple of comments and questions.
    First of all, I installed Revolution-alpha 5, no problems working on an XP laptop using Xampp locally. Generally I use Firefox and I can report that at least one of the addons I am using made Revolution manager as slow as molasses, I tried again in safe mode (addons disabled) and no problem. I will report what addons I am using in another post if anyone is interested.

    Top right corner of alpha 5 displays version as 2.0.0 alpha-4, I assume that this is a slight omission in the code update but it could indicate that the file contents are actually alpha-4 and I only think it is alpha-5 because I downloaded alpha-5.

    Before I get too wayward....

    I came to ModX from the codeIgnitor forumhttp://codeigniter.com/forums//, I have learned a TON! from working with CodeIgnitor and ModX is absolutely brilliant as a CMS.

    From what I see of Revolution, (and ModX 0.9.6) it would be a great framework, much like CodeIgnitor but with some built in features such as ACL already implemented.

    There is much to read about Revolution, can anyone comment on the difference between CodeIgnitor and Revolution?, I like CodeIgnitor because it is clean and understandable. The MVC pattern is brilliant once you get the hang of it, but I know that MVC is not CodeIgnitor.

    It looks like Revolution is also based on MVC, am I correct?

    FWIW CodeIgnitor also seem quite complex and confusing at first, so I know I could answer most if not all of my questions by doing research and digging into the online docs, but they are a bit scattered and I thought that I would take the opportunity to introduce myself, maybe someone here can point me to a good starting point.

    This is an absolutely critical piece of the puzzle http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Tag+Syntax I’m glad I found it.

    And this http://docs.modxcms.com/

    ModX 0.9.6 comes preconfigured with some snippets and the TinyMCE editor, the alpha release of Revolution seems (understandably) stripped down, so that’s something I am currently wrestling with.

    Anyway, hello all, there will be questions and I hope I can help on this project but I feel somewhat out of my league to be offering any sort of guidance or programming expertise.

      Ok I installed a few snippets (that was ridiculously easy!) I thought I would have to get my hands dirty wink

      I guess I have to wait for alpha-6 for the tinyMCE

            Yep, but just in case, I reinstalled both sdk and alpha. I haven’t tried the advanced version.

            alpha brings up a login screen but reloads with no error message.
            sdk just comes up blank.

            both are throwing segmentation faults.

            Is there any preferred setups?

            Also, since I’m on my own machine, would email be a difference? I’m not using an internal mail server.

              Make sure you have the pdo_mysql extension configured properly.

                pdo is installed in php

                I also un-commented out the lines:
                // optional: for forcing emulated PDO when required native PDO drivers are not available
                define(’XPDO_MODE’, 2);

                I also added to my php.ini file :
                extension=pdo.so
                extension=pdo_mysql.so

                Also tried with the define active and in-active.

                to my php.ini file .... lolo ... now I don’t even get a login screen with the non-sdk version.

                ughhhhh, what am I missing?

                  Hi,

                  I had installed alpha5 on local and it worked well, i deleted it but now when i want to install the Revo again, i get error below:
                  FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.

                  MODx requires the pdo_mysql driver when PDO is enabled and it does not appear to be loaded.

                  I use EasyPHP 2.0.0 and i can see in it’s administration page that pdo_drivers is loaded.
                    God loves me. 【ツ】

                    AHHP: The only EasyPHP I see hasn’t been updated since late 2006 and uses PHP 5.2.0. I would suggest looking into using XAMPP, or another WAMP package that is more up to date.

                    Carsten: Can you provide details for PDO and the PDO drivers you have installed, as well as the mysql extension details. All of these will be available in phpinfo().

                      Indeed EasyPHP is dead, if you’re looking for lite and simple try WAMPserver out, but in my experience for more serious / advanced testing (yet no taste for command line setups) XAMPP has a greater bundle and control over component.

                      Those using Macs can go for MAMP, Revolution is running fine here smiley
