      Hi everyone,

I managed to install MODx and this wonderful template perfectly, except for a small detail:

      6. Update the NewsListing snippet call accordingly (based on the demo site)

      [[NewsListing? &tpl=`NewsListingTemplate` &startID=`2` &summarize=`3` &total=`20` &commentschunk=`FormBlogComments`]]

What does that mean and what do I have to do exactly?

      Thanks in advance,
      Mathias

This just means that wherever you use the NewsListing snippet make sure you call it with the &tpl=`NewsListingTemplate` argument.

I am new to Modx, this is a nice template but are all templates this complicated to install? Isn’t there an easier way?

Actually creating a template in MODx is very easy, but using the functionality of MODx, other than using standard static page, instead you want to make a blog and etc, it takes a little bit of learning curve in here. But by the time you got the big picture, everything will start to make sense, and along the road, you will find that this CMS is really flexible, except that we haven’t go tthe point where newbie able to setup something in a really simple manner, other than using static page CMS capability in MODx.

Hope you will enjoy your experience with MODx.

              Regards,

I second what has been said by wendy... reminds me very much of Textpattern on this note.

I think that’s one reason why Textpattern has not as many users as WordPress. On the other hand, that’s also why Textpattern has mainly attracted more designers and geeks than end users.

Yet a theme installer will make things easier for end users, and that’s a part of the users also smiley

No, we are working on a template installer.

Could I suggest an interim solution? There are already a lot of very nice templates for ModX, why not package the best and nicest with the distribution, have them already installed so the user can select them with a theme chooser like on one of the ModX sites? This way a ModX expert does the installation work once - it will take them a lot less time - and everybody else benefits.

Nice suggestion, just have to check the licences first... And if we do this, I am very much in favor of original templates, not ports... Of course, those have to be great smiley

Maybe a template contest would help grin

Template contest? Sounds great to me, if we can have maybe 5-10 free template build originally from MODx, and the license allow the use of the template for free unger GPL maybe, then it will attract more users. The only concern will be to make sure that those templates are really2 good wink

Not a programmer, but maybe our users that are designer can help participating in promoting MODx. grin Anybody agree with me? I can see Banzai already strt designing his own template for this contest tongue
