Don’t waste any more time on KiwiCommerce. I knew quite PHP, so I was able to get it installed. I even was able to add the products to catalogue, but how to add the products to the shopping cart? This is just one of the issue. KiwiCommerce lacks both nice documentation, and stability. I my opinion, www.opencart.com, should work as a satisfactory alternative.

Sorry for my english and repeat topic.

      I can’t install this module..

Everything it’s OK when I installing module, but in my Menager Panel I have
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ’}’ in /home/darko/public_html/assets/snippets/shoppingCart/kiwee.class.php on line 21
      I can’t resolve this problem.

This is problem with PHP 4 on your server. Kiwee supports PHP5.
It can be fixed by rewriting some parts of code to PHP4.
If there are any interests - I can describe this process or publish functional version for PHP4.
        Just have a little faith...

        Hi guys,

I’m having problems installing kiwee ontop of modx. I’m using Ubuntu 6.06.
The part I’m having a problem w/ is what I consider to be one of the simplest things to do -- or so it seems. Kiwee keeps asking me to change the permissions on the index.php in the ecommerceInstaller folder. Not only have I change the permissions to 777, but I changed the folder’s permission, the modx folder and the index.php for modx to 777 to quadruple check. I keep getting errors for it anyway. Somehow, I feel that it’s the fault of my Base Path: directory that’s screwing me up. I made it /var/www/modx. Is that right? I can’t find the docs folder at all. What does that mean?

Kiwee ceased development a while ago and is not really supported. I’d love to see some folks get together and resurrect the project. Good luck!

Hmm... that’s a shame. I wish I knew that sooner.

Browsing around the forums, I see a lot of imcomplete or abandoned ecommerce modules. Are there any free eccomerce modules you (or anyone) could recommend that are in production state? One with more flexibility (something that has more options than just paypal) would be nice too. Thanks.

There’s a reason why ecommerce apps tend to be as big as cms or forum apps; it may seem fairly simple and obvious to begin with, but once you get into it it turns into a major project. And it also turns out that no two sites have the same requirements, so what may work nicely for the developer will be only half-done for the next person who tries to use it.

I have been extremely satisfied with FoxyCart. FoxyCart is an external solution to MODx, but the guys (Brett and Luke) over at FoxyCart share a real fondness for MODx as much as we do! There are 2 snippets that have been created to integrate FoxyCart with your MODx installation:

                http://modxcms.com/FoxyCart-Inventory-1493.html
                http://modxcms.com/FoxyCart-Webuser-Paid-Subsciptions-1682.html

FoxyCart was built by web designers, for web designers (and developers), so they think a lot like you do and are always looking to improve your e-commerce experience.

                Why FoxyCart?

                • One Page Checkout. Most checkout processes are slow, confusing, and generally awful. The more page reloads you have, the less completed orders you’ll get. One-page is the way to go. All good, right? Not quite yet. The customer shouldn’t have to figure out whether they’re new or returning. It’s an extra step that confuses people, which is why FoxyCart detects automatically.

                • Plays Well With Others. Foxycart gives you superior integration options. In fact, one of the goals of Foxycart was to avoid duplication of data by integrating with whatever your site’s setup might be. There is an intentional lack of a built-in CMS, as the developers firmly believe that one CMS is enough for your site.

                • Streamlined But Sexy. While still packed with features and a long list of payment gateway options, Foxycart has a lightweight footprint and a dynamic caching system (i.e. it’s fast). Foxycart really shines on "sites that happen to have a store" as opposed to dedicated storefronts.

                • Fast + Secure. Because Foxycart is a dedicated hosted solution for your storefront, it can end up being faster and cheaper, not to mention more secure than other e-commerce plans installed on your typical shared hosting plans.

And no, I do not work for FoxyCart, I am just very impressed with how well it has worked for my clients so far! As far as a payment gateway goes, you can use Quantum Gateway w/CDG Commerce, Authorize.net, PayPal Pro (Website Payments Pro), Cybersource, PSiGate (Canada), or eWAY (Australia).

Take a look at their site at http://www.foxycart.com and take a test drive with their demos at http://www.foxycart.com/examples-of-seo-xhtml-ecommerce.html.

The project has been abandoned it would seem.
