3. import your database (.sql) with phpMyAdmin and name it something like this: nameOfYourDatabase
When I go to phpMyAdmin, it gives me the option of creating a database. It then asks for "collation" (with a whole load of possible answers) and then "my sql collation collection" (with even more choices).
Any ideas of the answers to any of these choices?
Congratulations!

Okay, I’m stuck again...
Inside myadminphp, there are 3 DBs listed on the top left-hand side:
1. information_schema (28)
2. mysql (23)
3. testing
The name of the modx backup file that I downloaded is 25_dec_09_database_backup.sql.
Do I select one of these 3 DBs? Or do I create a new one?
When try to create a new one, it asks me for "collation" and "MySQL connection collation." I have no idea which options to choose from the drop-down menu.
I just typed in the name "hopeagain" and hit enter without selecting any of the options, and it went to another screen that said that I need to create a new table for the database and ask me to create a name for it and the number of fields.
Help!!
Create a new database
1. You can get the Char. encoding/collation info from you config.inc.php in manager/includes/
Normally UTF-8 / utf8_general_ci
2.
Quote from: google- In the main pane, click on the "SQL" tab.
- Underneath "Location of the text file", click the "Browse" button to select the SQL dumpfile you had had moved to your local computer in the previous step.
- Click "Go" to begin the import.
- When it has successfully completed, phpMyAdmin will display "Your SQL query has been executed successfully: The content of your file has been inserted."
Where would I find the config.inc.php file?
When I open mywebsite.com/manager, where do I look? Resources, and then manage resources or files? Which subfolders?
I even tried going to www.mywebsite.com/manager/includes, and it says I don’t have access to the file.
Also, I was told to download the following items/folders in order to back-up my website:
MODx files are the index.php, index-ajax.php, .htaccess files and the assets and manager folders (with all of their files inside).
These are the files that I am to upload into htdocs, right?
Google is your friend!
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=edit+php+files
But for this info you can just log into the manager on your live site
and check Reports -> System info (assuming your using MODx 096)...
The Manager folder doesn’t show in the file editor in the MODx Manager and, for security reasons, you won’t be able to access it directly in a browser.
To view or edit the manager/include/config.inc.php, you’d have to use the File Manager in your host’s cPanel (or the equivalent).
You could also use an FTP program to view/edit the file or to download it, edit it locally (with the editor of your choice) and upload it back to the server.

Did I miss any character or collection information in here? Everything’s beginning to run together.
