thank you david and sharkbait. i think i must have been seeing what i wanted to see as i thought the innerTpl got rid of those id=menu .
my innerTpl is as you suggested david,

[+wf.wrapper+]

my rowTpl is <li[+wf.classes+]>[+wf.linktext+][+wf.wrapper+]

outerTpl is
[+wf.wrapper+]

so it’s my outTpl buggering me up hey? if i made it
[+wf.wrapper+]
that’s not really gonna help is it.

sharkbait, i tried adding the ’color’ and didn’t work... so sorry, this must be as frustrating for you guys who can see the dumb things i’m just not getting as it is for me to not be getting them. huh if i posted this as a job would it be better? am really feeling bad to be asking so much.

Hi

Just caught this thread and thought I would let you know that I use the multiple-IE installation [http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE as above] on a Windows XP virtual machine. I just fire up the VM when I need to test things in IE. It saves keeping a separate physical machine around.

you’re telling me! i cant stop thinking about it when something doesnt work and i dont know what to do. i really need to get a better grounding in some of the basic stuff, just had to get this thing sorted as they’re keen to go live... tomorrow. buggers, hit me with the content about 3 days ago and expect it to be done so quickly. hence part of my super excitement, wouldnt have felt too good saying to not look at it in ie6. so i’ve gotta go do the upload now and cross my fingers all goes smoothly. thanks again, you’re all just wonderful grin

i swear this is the last time...
i’ve uploaded the site so it’s now live and happy. i didn’t notice before though that if i’m on a page, all the sub menu links have a pink background instead of white. so i guess that last bit we added to the css of...

ul#menu li.active a{
background-color:#F0DFDE;
color:#9A281F;
}

did it. would i then do something like:
ul#menu li.active a ul li a{
background-color:#fff;
color:#9A281F;
}

? i just tried it and it wasn’t right. am i close maybe?
