    am wondering if anyone who’s using ie 6 might be able to check out http://www.outbackstores.com.au/staging/ ? i think maybe i have a nav issue only can’t test it this end. i’ve tested it in ie 5.2 on my mac only am hoping it looks bad simply cos it’s ie on a mac.

    i’ve based the style sheets on 2 found elsewhere, and to be honest am not really sure what one of them does.. [when you look at the source code, the green bit at the top?]. so if there is an issue maybe i need to address that?

    thanks a lot in advance smiley

          i’m working on windows...actually i removed ie7 a long time ago by restoring the system ( i found it more necessary to check ie6 rather than 7). right now i’m developing on firefox, and will check it afterwards with ie6 & 7 . the IE7 i use is kind of a hacked standalone version.

          you can also check out http://browsershots.org/ sometimes it takes a while to get the snapshots, but it’s quite handy, nevertheless you can ask me wink

              thanks again sharkbait and paul. my hypothetical friend was on a pc as well... at work, hence her concern... have tried a system restore only no dates work, seems a common problem from what i’ve read this evening only am not impressed with myself. i mean herself.

              and i’ve check out those sites you fellas recommended, oh how i wish i’d know of them yesterday...
              seems that ie 5.5 and 6 are the only ones that my nav isn’t liking. can anybody spot why?

              http://www.outbackstores.com.au/staging/css/basic_dd.css
              http://www.outbackstores.com.au/staging/css/basic_dd_ie.css

              the basic_dd_ie one has this in it...

              .menu ul li a:hover ul {
              display:inline;
              position:absolute;
              top:31px;
              left:0;
              width:180px;
              }

              have also tried display:block only that doesn’t do anything...?

                Hi

                where did you get this menu from? i guess you need some kind of javascript to enable the IEs to hover the elements..

                try to add "line-height: 0;" to your .menu-properties in basic_dd.css and add
                .menu ul li a{
                float:left;
                position: relative;
                font-weight: bold;
                }
                in your basic_dd_ie.css, this will at least display the menu like you intended.

                by the way IE7 is showing the submenues, so i guess you have to enable IE6 to hover...

                good luck smiley

                  argh... i think it’s time for me to retire for the night. that css was from one of the muddy dog paws examples, http://www.muddydogpaws.com/development/wayfinder/examples/example-2.html. figured the muddydogpaws menus must look ok in ie on a pc [again, am on a mac so can’t see for sure. i did look at it using http://browsershots.org and initial screenshot looked ok].
                  i’m actually having a better look around that max design site you pointed me to before and found all the css lists/menus, so i think i’ll work through them a bit and see if i can maybe make the nav again and understand it a bit better this time, rather than copying and pasting and hoping for the best.
                  thank you so much for all your help this evening. laugh

                    Moi. wink

                    I was suckered by a site claiming that you could have multiple IEs on the same computer for testing purposes. The possible end result is that some of your versions of IE misidentify themselves to the site you’re visiting, so any IE conditionals in the CSS end up doing more harm than good and you mung up your CSS while thinking that you’re improving it.

                    It took me days to figure out what was happening and I only caught on because, being a programmer, I ended up creating simple diagnostic pages to test the IE conditionals. When I looked at a page with IE7 and the diagnostic message read "you are using IE6," the light came on.

                    I now have IE6 and IE7 installed on two different machines.

                      hey there bob tongue
                      i ended up reinstalling ie7, didn’t think it’d work as the uninstall got partway through. it did though and i am now leaving it well and truly alone! when is someone going to invent the ’god’ browser, which is just the one and only browser everyone users... oh that’d be nice hey?
