Hi, I'm currently using Evo 1.0.4 for my website which stands at around 700+ pages. I will be adding many more pages in the future. So far Evo has been fine but I'm wondering whether it's worth me upgrading to Revolution in the long term? My website is an animal factfile site, so each new animal adds a page to the site.

If I do upgrade, can someone explain (an idiot's guide if possible!) how I can create a Revolution site on the side but still have my Evo site unaffected? I read somewhere that you can download Revolution to a subdirectory and then change the htaccess file but it does not explain how

    Any help appreciated
    Regards

You can have Revo in subdirectory.
Run the setup from it, so the config file can keep the correct path of that subdirectory.

Ok so from what I understand, my root folder contains assets folders etc. I then install my modx Revolution folder into root so that becomes root folder/modx Rev . To access modx Evolution I go to www.pawsforwildlife.co.uk/manager. What would I put in for the *new modx Revo* front end to be able to start creating it? Also do I need to modify anything else (i.e the htaccess file, etc)

if you have your revo-installation under root/revo/

modify this line in your .htaccess:

          RewriteEngine On
          RewriteBase /revo

you would run the install under yourdomain/revo/setup

or, if possible, create a subdomain, which points directly to this directory

          than you would do

          revo.yourdomain/setup

Hi Bruno, thanks for the reply. I have my Evo site expanded directly into the root folder so for example root folder contains the assets, images, etc folders. If I then added a folder Revo, and expanded the Revolution package into it:

1: would it affect my Evo site?
            2. How would I access the manager to start creating my site?
3: What files, etc might I need to ammed?

sorry to be a pain, I just dont want to affect my current site

              1. this shouldn't affect anything with your EVO - installation (if you hadn't a /revo/ - page inside your EVO - resource-tree)
              2. you would access the manager with

              yourdomain/revo/manager

or if you would create a subdomain for that with

              revo.yourdomain/manager

              3. you don't need to amend any files (besides the root/revo/.htaccess, if you don't create a subdomain)

Thank you Bruno you have cleared alot up for me. So I will install the Revo file into the root and access it via www.pawsforwildlife/revo/manager. Just out of curiosity, is Revolution worth the change from Evo? I seem to have seen a few mixed results, but as my site expands I need a better CMS and some of the Revo apps are not available in Evo.

Well, there are many discussions about this topic.
Personally, for new Installations, I would allways choose Revo.
If its worth to upgrade from EVO depends on many factors.

I have downloaded modx Revo to my root folder. Evo is located here:

                    www.mydomain.co.uk/manager

and in theory Revo should be located here:

                    www.mydomain.co.uk/revo2/manager

Only when Igo to the latter I get an Error 503: Serice unavailable Could not load MODX config file?

                    Am I doing something wrong?

Dont mix Evo + Revo - they are not compatible

Dont use the same database either

You can not upgrade from Evo to Revo by doing a standard upgrade
