Did you just install your new MODx CMS in that new folder 'modxfolder' inside your webroot? You need to install MODx in your web root and also place your .htaccess file in the webroot.
Don't install it in that modxfolder.

It is located in my webroot. This is the path to my installation
/mydomain.com/public_html/modx/
If i would put it somewhere outside public_html
I would not be able to go to the installation wizard (mydomain.com/modx/setup/)
I am currently running several databases and have
Wordpres, Joomla and other things in different folder.
For example;
/mydomain.com/public_html/wordpress/
/mydomain.com/public_html/joomla/
/mydomain.com/public_html/htmlsite/
in my root
/mydomain.com/public_html/
i only have a html file with some basic info of my site and links to the wordpress part, joomla part etc.
So why would it not work to have
/mydomain.com/public_html/modx/
(each installation have their own database, one for wordpress, one for joomla etc).
I don't think this causes the errors, you can install modx in a folder.
Ok, thats great atleast. Beeen trying over and over the whole day.
The .htaccess trick did not work, it just made me not able to run the installation atall.
All my other attempts have failed. Im up to over 10 attempts now.
What is wrong.
Since i can run the installation and it do shows all OK and says that i do got all parts installed and do not show any errors. It should work.
But then i can not login atall. And i do make sure to type the correct pw and username.
Only errors found are those in the log i pasted in a post previously. But i dont know what to do about it.
Anyone?
Oh okay. Where did you upload your htaccess folder?
Did you change anything else in your htaccess file?
You are getting a 500 internal server error suddenly and the only thing different is your htaccess file now.
What happens when you revert your .htaccess file into ht.access and run the setup again?
~~||[ Simplicity is everything ]||~~
my installation is at
mydomain.com/public_html/modx/
to run the setup i go to www.mydomain.com/modx/setup/
i took the file called ht.access
changed the name to .htaccess
aded the line provided above, pasted it at the end.
then uploaded it back to where i found the ht.access file
to mydomain.com/public_html/modx/
when i have uploaded the .htaccess file with the aded line
php_flag opcache.enable Off
I try to start the setup by going to mydomain.com/public_html/modx/setup/
but then i get the error 500.
If i rename the .htaccess file back to ht.access
the setup works
if i keep the .htaccess file and only remove the line php_flag opcache.enable Off
the setup works.
so it seems it is
php_flag opcache.enable Off
that makes the error 500
should i try putting the .htaccess file somewhere else?
Your .htaccess is in the right place, your host just doesn't allow php_flag settings in it.
The error messages suggest a problem with permissions. On many hosts with suPHP or suExec, etc. running, 777 won't work at all. In those cases, you need 755 for folders and 644 for files.
You might be a candidate for this:
http://bobsguides.com/sitecheck-tutorial.html. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem, but it might point you in the right direction.
You should also look at the database in PhpMyAdmin to see if there is a username and password in record 1 of the modx_users table. In some versions of MODX, they can end up blank, which would explain your problem. You can enter a username in the table, but not a password, since the password is hashed. If the password field is blank, see this:

Well trying to speak to my server provider. They seem to think that MODX is the problem and they have no faults.
So i donno what to do and now this attempt to start using Modx is failing. Losing motivation after spending the whole day just trying to install the CMS.
