Host: hostgator -- they recently completed a server upgrade.
Revolution version: 2.2.9 Traditional
I have used Modx for years and have not yet switched to the revolution package -- but I've got an installation running for testing/playing. After upgrading to 2.2.9 I got the same skinny dash and couldn't logout either so clearing caches didn't seem to work... since I was never logged out. Tried switching browsers and the usual round of "what-if-I's" that didn't work.
HERE'S THE PROBLEM -- AND THE SOLTION
1. core/config/config.inc.php - fosterscape (above) mentioned 2 locations in the config file where the home directory had appeared to reset. I didn't know if the reset was a Modx error so... first, I double checked my actual home directory. cPanel displays it lower left on the main dash under account info. In my case, the home directory HAD changed to /home4/ from /home/ so the reset wasn't a modx error. Servers update randomly, but they don't often change the /home/ path so it would explain why this is a random problem that develops out of the blue.
2. I went back to the config.inc.php file. I found that the upgrade had apparently updated 2 of the locations with /home4/ MODX_CORE_PATH and MODX_PROCESSORS_PATH
--->>> But there are actually 6 locations in config.inc.php that reference the home directory and the other four had not been updated. Notice that the manager path is one the four - I've included line numbers from BB Edit:

Line: 40: $modx_manager_path= '/home4/';

I updated all 6 locations with the new /home4/
3. loaded the /manager/ location in my browser and Bob's your uncle, it's all back and working -- getting a full display, and I can logout and login.
