After some searching, I found Modx and wanted to check it out. I got it installed via Softaculous and logged into the manager. Unfortunately, it's broken. The Dashboard is barely visible. Looks like it might be a height setting from within the code but I'm not sure. I'm hopeful that someone can check it out and let me know if there is a fix.

The results are the same in the latest release of Firefox as well as IE9.

There is nothing wrong with the 2.2.8 Manager. Personally, I've installed it at least a dozen times, on at least five different hosting environments. Try it out on a free MODx Cloud lab account. https://modxcloud.com/

There are a few things you can check.

First, get into the database, go to the system_settings table, and set the compress_css and compress_js fields to 0.

Next, how did you install MODx? Did you unzip the downloaded archive and then upload all the files to your server? If so, it is not uncommon for files to be missing or corrupted during the upload. It is recommended that you upload the .zip archive and unzip it in place on the server.

Check your server PHP error logs, as well as access logs for 404 and other access errors.

That didn't work. I installed it via Softaculous.

Here is a smaller view of the above screenshot. Even the browser scrollbar gets messed up. Other pages from within the manager don't appear at all.

I'm having the same problem with a client's website. It was working fine (MODX 2.2.7) on the weekend and then yesterday it started behaving like this.

I tried upgrading to MODx 2.2.9 but the problem persists. Tried clearing out the cache folder and in my browser, deleted cookies and still it did not fix the issue.

You'll need to speak to your hosting company's tech support. It sounds like the mysql configuration is set to the wrong socket location, or perhaps the socket file has been corrupted.

ok that error log helped... My Dashboard is now working smiley

I noticed in the log, once I posted it here, that the path it was trying to access was 'home2/user/public_html', the correct path (according to my clients hosting provider) should be 'home/user/public_html'

So I opened 'home/user/public_html/core/config/config.inc.php' and 2 of the settings, MODX_CORE_PATH and MODX_PROCESSORS_PATH, were set to 'home2' in their paths.

All other settings were set as 'home/user/public_html'... I removed the rouge '2' saved the config file, refreshed the MODx manager and it all loaded in fine.

I still don't understand why the manager was working fine on the weekend and then stopped working yesterday or why/when the config file was written by MODx that it would put a different path in for two settings and the correct path for the rest of the settings?

OK, I installed MODX 2.2.9 and although I had some config issues that Bob & Sottwell helped Me straighten out, I selected the UTF-8 character set and UTF-8-unicode-ci collate.

After that, every single thing had a green checkmark and everything installed. Except, after finishing and deleting the setup directory, I was presented with a heading menu and a tiny scrollable window, or iframe, under it that almost didn't allow me to read more than a line or two of text.

Once I deleted the setup files and logged in I was presented with a tiny iFrame style scrollable window such as the original poster presented here, only because it was a fresh install, so I was presented with the news. But it went away after clicking on 'Dashboards' and from then on I only had a blank page under the drop-down menu bar header. I select other things and all I get is a heading with a blank page.

I can get here, through support/forums, but that opens in a new window.

Even though I had a working index.html default file in the site root (where I installed MODX), when I load/view the site in a new window I also get a completely blank page.

It looks like something is wonky in the css, or something.

So it is installed, but I have no viewable control panel in the manager, just a menu that doesn't seem to take Me anywhere.

Isn't the install verified? I have a personal preference to unzipping the install, checking things and making sure there are no viruses or trojan horses, and then uploading it, and Dreamweaver reported no errors after uploading everything.

I'll look at config.inc.php file, as the original poster fixed his that way...

I don't see anything of concern.

                  Any ideas?

                  Thanks kindly, in advance.

The odds are good that one of these three things will fix it:

                    1. clearing your browser cache and cookies

                    2. turning off the compress_js and compress_css system settings (if necessary, in the modx_system_settings table in the DB).

                    3. deleting all files in the core/cache directory

(#3 may be necessary for #2 to take effect)

We have exact the same issue when moving site from one install.

Performed the 3 steps of BobRay, first in wrong order, than in correct order and now I have Dashboard smiley Thereafter, I tried to put compression settings back to "1" . The Dashboard was ok... until I reinstalled CkEditor, and then same problem. Now keeping compression off.

                      Does this make site/manager slower?
