Well, I’m sure I can make a case for the commercial support. grin

I am totally in agreeement with the need for commercial support -I would go as far as saying that some commercial customers demand it. If you were running a business and your website was a key part - you likely need such an option or wish to have the comfort that your supplier/developer can access it and get very prompt answers or facility to take a look at your site and see what is going on.

What I would also be interested in is knowing is if there will be an option to request commercial work - For example we just keep growing and seem to need additional Modx skills for all sorts of tasks (especially PHP coding) as we get busier and busier. Some are small (under one hour) and others a bigger - several hours or more. I would prefer to either seek to address those peaks / specialist skills either via a commercial footing, which would be professionally supported or from someone that will be doing this long enough to be able to deal with issues, should they arrise from time to time.

But I also agree that teh spirit of the free forums and help provided should not change

As a one man development company, I picked MODx as my CMS/F of choice. I would most likely be interested in taking part of this, if/whenever I can help/get support. I could also offer French Canadian support, in the Montreal/Quebec area. (Not that I don’t like French from France, but they just do things differently).

I’ll keep an eye on this forum.

Still in soft launch and wasn’t planning on publicizing that. :/

              :D

In that case, is it premature to ask for info about what a support ticket entitles you to?

A resolution on whatever issue it is you’re having problems with regards to getting something to work the way you want it to work with MODx. Could be helping create a template, troubleshooting some custom snippet code, implementing more complex snippets like Ajax search ... and on and on. One issue per ticket though. smiley

Just so everyone can know what’s going on behind the scenes, my hesitation centers around two issues: CVV codes in the billing system and email-to-ticket conversion for the support ticket system. Looks like the CVV issue is now resolved, so we’re almost there. smiley

For anyone on a deadline, this is an invaluable service. I mean, I can tinker around and figure out how to make stuff work, but if some client needs a particular aspect of the site or some web service to work pronto, the may not be cool with my response of "yeah, we can do that! Might take a while?"

Having commercial support there is an absolute life saver. The difference between making a deal and breaking a deal. If I can pull it off, the client is beyond satisfied, will keep me in pocket, and hopefully recommend me to other clients. If I can’t come through, they are going to dump me, find someone who can do the job, and chances are good that they aren’t going to toss my card to their associates!

In my mind, this takes MODx from open source, do it yourself, tinker tool to full blown best friend I can count on in any pinch. This is one of the best things that could happen for this project. Kudos to the foundation and core team. You folks rock harder than ever! Yarrrr!
