Well i think that’s it’s a good idea that could make the development of modx faster. I just hope that this plans don’t interfere with 0.9.7 and the general documentation for developers wanting to use the cmf would be better (something like codeigniter would be great tongue).

I’d love to see a show of hands from long-time (or very active) users that can get by in English but also that would be willing to help patrol in the new commercial support section. David, did all those folks volunteer for duty there?

Although I’m not as active in development as I’d like to be nowadays, I’ll be there to help out.

This could be a good idea, but I hope you have a plan for how you will handle user-contributed snippets, plugins and modules:
Will the core team and other professionals handle support request for those, will the original author be called in to answer (will he/her be compensated) or will the one asking the question be directed to the free/open forum?

The commercial support forums are for the MODx core distribution and API usage. We should also be able to provide support for any core snippets we distribute by default. We’ll will make our best effort to support third-party snippets with which we have experience, but can make no promises there. There’s no compensation for anyone unless we hire someone to run the support forums.

There’s also a very clear need in some circumstances for more private discussions that won’t be indexed for all the world to see, including competitors. If there’s not a semi-private forum there’s likely to be a less open flow of information and ideas in critical situations, which is contradictory to the goals of the pure-online commercial support offering.

A very good point indeed, many times I bounced ideas in the public forums and found shelter behind the fact that most of this stuff was in english and a very few (if any) of my clients would even happen to read it... nevertheless, it would be better to have some privacy for some items smiley As said before, this does not mean it will not come out / benefit the community at large once things are finalized.

                But the difference is :
                1) You have the choice of making things public (as stated earlier, in some case you won’t want that)
                2) While the "final product" (be it a snippet, module or a best practice / method) is public the process of building it is not (a little bit like the process which goes on internally in the MODx team forums already - which are not public... and nobody got scared about that wink ).

Sounds great, this is something I would be very interested in.

As I deal with some projects that I will not post any url in a public forum , and a private forum would make me and some of my clients at ease.

                  :)

I’d be very keen to find a way to financially support MODx. However, as I work for an organisation rather than being freelance, there has to be a way of justifying the expenditure. The commercial support option is certainly one, although I think I’d prefer a licensing option.

MODx is not offered under any license outside of the GPL, so I don’t see that as a reality anytime soon honestly.
