    Hi,

I'm new to Modx and have installed Revo 2.2.0 no problem onto a Cpanel host account which is set up with a temporary URL (using the server ip /~username). I can view pages created in Modx when using preview, but if i go direct to the url in the browser (being my ip address/~username), i don't see the modx version of the site.. Is there something i'm missing out here?

Also, at the point of connecting the actual domain name to this new host account when the site is ready to go live, is there another action that then needs to be carried out? I've studied forum posts and docs but can't get my head around this. Apart from that, i understand the concept of how everything works in Modx and have begun building up my first website with it. Any comments would be greatly appreciated, i'm more a visual designer than a technical development person.

Are all your MODX pages published?

The preview will work in the browser if the pages are unpublished. Check published and see what happens?

It doesn't appear to make any difference whether i check published or unpublished. In both cases when inside a document, hitting the preview button shows the same page if that's what you mean. And in both cases, by typing in the temp-url into the browser it does not load the modx version of home page.

Temporary URLs generally don't work with MODX. It should be OK once you have a real domain name in the URL.

I haven't encountered any issues using the temp url on cpanel servers, granted if your host enabled mod_userdir or open_basedir you may run into problems (if the manger works that's not the issue). Mileage does vary tho...

Did you install the site using the same temp url, and do you have furls enabled? If you changed the temp url then you may need to update the config file, and furls on the temp url can have problems for sure.

It may depend on the server. I've seen it on cPanel servers (a long time ago) and a number of other users have reported trouble that went away once they no longer had to use the temporary URL.

I have had furls enabled and disabled, and the site (if i understand you correctly) is installed into modx via one template and documents for page content. I haven't made any changes or done anything to the temp url since i set up the cpanel host account. I'm looking at around 6+ installs of modx 2.2.0 revo right now onto new or existing sites which are all hosted on cpanel accounts. As a complete newbie, what i haven't figured out yet is how best to approach two scenario's-

                1.

modx is installed on a new host account using temp url to build up a brand new site with, and then when it's ready, simply pointing a domain name at it. WHat changes need to be made in modx settings if any?

                2.

installing modx to an existing website on cpanel. I'm about to try this now for a website, and not sure if i should install modx direct into the root where existing .html files are, Or, set up another folder within root to place modx whilst i do a retro fit (say like a sub domain)

There's a few different ideas mentioned in this thread. I'm currently doing it the sub-folder way with an existing static site although I think I would have tried it the way Gibbs described if I'd know how before I started.

Make sure you don't have an index.html file in the MODX root directory.
